In non-news, Cliff Fletcher recently reiterated via e-mail that the reported rumours suggesting he’s pursuing Atlanta’s sniper Ilya Kovalchuk are “rumours without merit.”

Thought I would just confirm this.

    The denial is worth less than the paper its printed on. If Fletch were to confirm he were after Kovalchuck, he would be accused of tampering, not to mention igniting a huge media shitstorm. Denials like these are worthless. I don’t think the Leafs could come up with a package to get K’chuck without seriously depleting an already bare cupboard. Not to mention trading K’chuck would signal the death knell of the Thrashers in Atlanta (not a bad thing)
