Trade Report: DiDo dealt

This just in:

Toronto Maple Leafs forward prospect Chris DiDomenico has been traded.

Relax, Leaf fans, he’s still in the system.   Somehow I get the feeling Burke won’t be trading DiDo anytime soon.

The QMJHL trade deadline is approaching (this Thursday), and following the gold-medal victory on Monday night, DiDomenico discovered he had been traded from the St. John’s Sea Dogs to the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

As an indication of DiDo’s worth in the QMJHL, check out the package the Sea Dogs received in exchange for him:  goaltender Simon Giroux, winger Mathieu Gingras, a first-round pick in 2009 and a second-round pick in 2010.

DiDomenico put up 34 points in 26 games (11 g, 23 a) with the Sea Dogs, and now joins one of the most explosive teams in the QMJHL.   Coming off a very solid performance in the WJC, this move should serve to further enhance his development as a scoring-line forward.

I posted the same thing, with a link to the Star yesterday.

    http://mapleleafshotstove.proboards106.com/index.cgi?board=rands&action=display&thread=264

It speculated about the Dido trade to Drummondville, as well as Tavares to Windsor or London.

Hopefully Dido can have a long playoff with Drummondville!!!

That’s gotta kinda hurt a little, the team that gave him a shot as a walk-on when no-one drafted him trading him just hours after his gold medal win. Nobody likes being traded.

Also, anyone notice the side panel in that article Bauman linked to? Apparently Leafs prospect Mikhail Stefanovich just won offensive player of the week honours with seven goals and eight points in three games.

Stefanovich has 21 goals in 29 games this year. He’s having a pretty good year!!

This is great for Dido’s development. I think one of the coaches at the WJHC was the Drummondville coach who’s a hotshot. Didn’t he develop that play which saw P.K. Subban scoring a few times with that press in front of the opponents net. Plus the run at the Memorial Cup will be another great experience.

Yes, Drummondville head coach Guy Boucher was an assistant with Team Canada. Not sure about who developed that “Subban” play though.

Hope it didn’t dampen his celebrations, although I’m sure he wanted to get moved to a contender

As vesku said, a good move from the Leafs perspective

    Vesku35,

Dido had a pretty good playoff last year. Just missed getting to the Q finals, lost in the Semis!! 8 goals in 14 games.

We have like three good prospects from QMJHL: Joel Champagne, Mikhail Stefanovich and Chris Didomenico. Can’t wait til Dido dresses in a leafs uniform in two years!

Jeez, scared the crap outta me when I saw the title.

I was expecting something random like Dido to the Lightning for a 3rd round pick or something.

    I would’ve been pissed.

I’m pretty sure(not positively sure),that Stefanovich was dealt to the Habs for Grabovski.

Windsor has a great team already. If they scoop Tavares from under the noses of the London Knights,I would put serious money on the Spitfires winning the Memorial Cup this season.

Under the Quietly under the radar category: The Leafs drafted a kid many scouts have already said was THE steal of the 08 draft,in I believe the second round. His name is Jimmy Hayes. 6’5 215 at 18! Playing in College right now,but was the best American player in the WJC.Watch for this kid to be in the Leaf line up in two more seasons,if not sooner.

Vesku35: I have heard the Tucker comparison too.Same in your face, gritty style ,without the “rangyness”.In other words just like Tucker, but without the cheapshots and stup penalties at thwe worst possible moment.

Hey Wayne – the Leafs dealt Greg Pateryn. Mikhail Stefanovich remains with the organization.
