Quick Hits: NTCs, post-game reaction

Confusion across the Barilkosphere as to the respective no-trade clause situations of Pavel Kubina and Tomas Kaberle has been unending, mostly because, of the characteristics that describe the professional sports media in this city, informative or useful are not chief among them.

So I contacted Cliff Fletcher and Brian Burke. Wow, imagine that.

I’ve managed to confirm the following: Pavel Kubina and Tomas Kaberle both have windows of NTC exemption this summer, providing the Maple Leafs miss the playoffs. The windows open come the June Entry Draft and extend until August 15th. This may explain Burke’s intimation that he will not approach either Pavel Kubina or Tomas Kaberle about waiving, he may not ultimately have to. However, I speculate that Burke will still aware Tomas Kaberle or Pavel Kubina of an available deal should one arise as a way of simply “presenting an option.” Based on today’s report on TSN, it seems Kaberle wouldn’t stand in the way of a potential deal.

Tomas Kaberle can be traded as of the Entry Draft to any NHL club. Pavel Kubina has a list of pre-specified teams which unfortunately I couldn’t discover the identities of.

I also managed to confirm with Brian Burke that the Leafs’ conditional sixth rounder involved in yesterday’s trade will only change hands if he re-signs Brad May before or on July 1st.

***

Solid beatings at the hands of superiorly talented teams were to be expected this season. At least this time the Leafs didn’t slip silently into the night.

Brad May was incorrigible in a splendid debut performance… he was in the face of any Hab that looked at him wrong and owned Francois Boullion in a fight. Unfortunately it looked like May got the worst of it as he injured his hand because Bouillion had the gall to fight with his visor on. The revelation that May appears to be a free acquisition, coupled with tonight’s impressive preview, certainly has me sold on Burke’s lone deal thus far. His testiness was infectious and that’s a promising sign.

Grabovski may be facing further punishment for gently shoving the referee and kicking his stick into a crowd. I don’t know why the refs didn’t just let him and ‘Tits go at it so the pair could settle this zealous tiff once and for all.

Luke Schenn has returned with a vengeance. He was a physical force tonight.

But let’s not forget that for the most part the Leafs sucked.

Ok so OC transpo drivers say its not about the money its the scheduling….
    ok heres my idea

The women drivers should become prostitutes and strippers they can work nigh shifts and have the whole day to do whatever they want and their other comitments…i doubt they could qualify to grind a pole they have more facial hair then the male drivers

The male drivers should either be stoned at the civic centre or tied to poles and people should be allowed to light their passes on fire and burn their nipples off becuase what they lack in facial hair they make up for in fat jiggling breasts

Or we can just burn the drivers and the union leaders and through their ashes in the ganges river or something

Bottom Line OC transpo is the biggest bunch of uneducated indiviuals I have ever seen….if having a driving liscence the only credential for making $70,000 there would be no need for education…

I dont see garbage men complaining and going on strike and they pick up our garbage!…….i hope the drivers and union memebers get humped in their bums by horses

I think there’s a possibility of a trade involving James vanRiemsdyk and a first for Kaberle. We all know they were willing to part with Carter last season in a similarly structured deal. VanRiemsdyk could be our offensive centerpiece for a long time, and the Flyers still haven’t found that powerplay quarterback they’ve been looking for.

Is it just me, or did the Habs team and fans show little or no class last night. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about bad blood, but I really think the way the Habs fans serenade their opponents will come back to bite them at some point.

I saw one thing for sure…yes the Habs have skill, but without Laraque, you can run them all day. Unfortunately, this didn’t translate into a win for us tonight, but I did like the moxy we had…and loved Mayers going after Kostopolous.

I hope our competitive edge is back. Even if we lose, when you play us, you are going to pay a price…that’s the message I think Burke and Wilson are trying to send to the team, and tonight they seemed to have caught it.

When does Deveaux get sent back down with May and Mayers in the lineup? Or do they keep the wrecking crew together?? Could be kinda fun to watch them run over teams as a collective unit.

“but I really think the way the Habs fans serenade their opponents will come back to bite them at some point.”

I find it hilarious how Habs fans chant the hey hey hey goodbye song in game 41 of an 82 game season. They were also doing it game 1, round 1 last year against Boston. I guess the concept and meaning of the song is lost on them.
