Fighting: It’s Time to Educate

fan
Last night, in another rare occurrence, Philadelphia Phantoms tough guy, Garrett Klotz, fought the Manchester Monarch’s enforcer, Kevin Westgarth, on the drop of the opening faceoff. It began at center ice, but after a few punches back and forth in an even affair, it shifted towards the Monarch’s bench. It was then that Westgarth landed some heavy rights, including a few uppercuts, and Klotz went down. He immediately began convulsing and medical staff rushed over to aid the 20 year old.

Trade Alert: Leafs send Earl to Minnesota

Breaking News from NHL.com:

Toronto acquires LW Ryan Hamilton from Minnesota in exchange for LW Robbie Earl.

Quick Thoughts:

This is pretty much a lateral move in terms of both teams exchanging a pair of underachieving 23 year old left wingers with the hope that a change in scenery would do them both some good. +Continue Reading

Newswire: time to put one rumour to bed, maybe start another?

This just in: we can officially put any and all Pascal Leclaire-to-Toronto trade rumours to rest.

Reimin’ It Up

*I’ll be honest, I don’t even know what the hell this title means, but it gave me a chuckle, so I hope I get a cheap laugh out of ya’*

You know what really grinds my gears?

James Reimer has been a forgotten player amongst the Leafs’ prospect cupboard.

Crunching the Numbers on the League’s Top Crunchers

As has been the case for most of this season, rookie defenseman Luke Schenn was one of the lone brights spots as the Toronto Maple Leafs came away with yet another disappointing result on Friday night against the Atlanta Thrashers. Schenn logged nearly 25 minutes of ice-time, 4 minutes on the PK, recorded an assist, made a brilliant defensive play on the Kovalchuk near-breakaway and threw in a couple of resounding hits for good measure. Among the 4 defensemen who logged 20+ minutes of ice-time (Kubina, Kaberle, Schenn, White), Luke was the only one not to finish with a minus rating. +Continue Reading

Our Kingdom for a Goalie

Through 45 games the abject tandem of Toskala and Joseph has combined for the worst team save percentage in the NHL and by an ever increasing margin. Where .900 is seen as a barometer for average net minding in the modern game, the Blueshirted duo has managed just .886 between them. Subsequently the hard work put into making the Leafs sixth in shots against with a 28.3 per game average is being undone by a last line of defence that bares a startling resemblance to the Maginot line. Worse still the current status quo threatens to undermine the very rebuilding process Toronto are pinning their future on.
