Here are some quick hits on news around the league with just around 24 hours to go until the deadline:

From The Score:

With only one day left before the trade deadline, several NHL teams placed players on waivers this afternoon, with the hope of freeing up some cap room to add players via trade.

Pittsburgh’s Miroslav Satan, Tampa’s Gary Roberts, Anaheim’s Brendan Morrison and Ottawa’s Martin Gerber are the biggest names on the list, which also includes Brendan Bell (Ottawa), Aaron Voros and Erik Reitz (Rangers), Eric Perrin (Atlanta), Craig Adams (Chicago), Peter Olvecky (Wild) and Jon Sim (Islanders).

Additionally, the Calgary Flames have claimed Lawrence Nycholat on waivers from the Vancouver Canucks.

- The Wild have signed goaltender Nik Backstrom to a 4 year extension worth 6M per season.
- The Rangers have claimed Avery off re-entry waivers – surprise, surprise.
- Dominic Moore contract negotiations resumed this morning.
- The price for Gaborik is believed to be a similar return for the demand on Kaberle.

There are 24 teams in action tonight, on the eve of the deadline, it will be interesting to see who is a healthy scratch.

Let the countdown begin.

I really hope that Kabs is a scratch tonight. It would mean that they are most likely trading him, and did nto want to risk injury. Antro should not be playing, and unless Moore can agree to Burke’s terms, he should not be playing either.
    Let the games continue!

See how much better of a writer you are when you aren’t making stuff up? Keep up the good work Mike, you are a good reporter. You don’t need any “extras” to write a good story.

If I were Burkie, I’d scratch Moore and Antropov for sure. Those are the only two that are for-sure trades. Anyone else I say we keep in in case we have a lot of scouts at the Hangar.

Kaberle needs to play to reassure GMs that he’s healthy, and a deal for him (if it happens) will probably come right up against the deadline. Antro should sit as this will be the game that he re-injures one of his knees. Moore will either be signed by game time or he will probably sit as well.

@ Davey: If you review Michael’s work, you’ll notice the word ‘rumour’ appears in most of the speculative pieces. No need to be so patronizing.

I for one can’t understand how a GM can give up the type of package that kaberle is seeking for Gaborik, Dont get me wrong hes a great winger when heathly but that has been to far inbetween for a team to considerign giving up that much.

Not sure why Gaborik would get the same return as kaberle 1. he’s so injury prone, 2. He will cost you more than kaberle. and 3. He might not even resign with the team trading for him…

Anyways, should be an interesting 24 hours. I don’t expect Moore to play tonight unless he agrees to a deal which doesn’t seem likely.

I don’t expect anyone to be scratched tonight, unless a deal is imminant.

ok, listen up leaf fans… i love the leafs, but be prepared for disapointment and lots of it. Brian Burke has screwed this up good. Why the leafs are 8 points out is sickening… they should have handed the reigns to the rookie goalie and flopped. now were in a familiar spot, crap draft picks again. Toskala is good, but has no trade value. WTG. Antropov isnt going to get us anything other than a 2nd and a crap player, and moore? whats he REALLY worth on any other team? not alot. IM SAD.
