Bouwmeester would be a nice addition, I think Komisarek would be a fantastic pick-up, and possibly Moen, and that is all assuming the price is right. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be disappointed to see the Leafs sit tight and wait it out another year. I think the following year there will be a better crop of UFAs and the Leafs cap space would be very high making them a very desirable trade partner to move some of the bigger ticket contracts when the cap crunch comes.

JAY BOUWMEESTER IS SO OVER RATED ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY!

I wish people would stop talking about this guy coming to the Leafs. The sucks defensively and he is not all that offensive either. Look at the stats people. This guys should be getting 4.5 -5 mill MAX. PERIOD.

I totally disagree with those dissing Bouwmeister. He would be the best defenseman on the Leafs bar none. He is what Schenn will be in five years and why not have them both. Two stud defensemen supported by a strong young cast would go a long way to reducing the goals against. If Burke can sign the Swede goalie, draft a goalie prospect with a later round draft choice and keep building with youth, especially in the top six forward positions, we will be on our way.

Why do you guys want to sign grinders like Moen, Franzen (until today), Pahlsson, Begin, Komisarek, Laperriere etc?

These players are dime a dozen, and can be developed within our own system. We need high-end offensive talent, you sign guys like Moen and Pahlsson and next year we have a lineup consisting of 4 Third lines. Again.

MY GUESS.. Burke will be in the bidding for BOTH Cammalleri and Bouwmeester, but will be very non-committal and when the bidding war gets out of hand (and they will) he will walk away, and save it for Nash.

There was a time when Luongo didn’t have playoff stats either. I think you can judge a player enough based on the 82 game regular season that playoff performance isn’t considered full heartedly until the team in question actually reaches the playoffs and fails a couple of times.

Great job by Detroit today in extending Franzen for so long at such a reasonable price. Considering that this kid is still breaking out he may be worth twice his new contract in a few seasons. How crazy is it that Detroit will have Zetterberg and Franzen for their entire careers at a good price? I still hope to see ridiculous contract lengths like this bite the team in the ass though. An interesting thing to note though is that Franzen is 29, has played something like four NHL seasons, and only really became noticed last year and was strongly desired this upcoming summer by many arm-chair GMs. Where was he the first couple of seasons? He’s a good example of not giving up on a guy too early and to develop those within your system.

    @odd man rush
I agree that Komisarek has not been quite the same since he got pounded by Lucic. If Lucic were available I would take him. But Komisarek did at least go with Lucic. Komisarek is playing with a bunch of dirty puck swinging cowards in Montreal. He stands out as different. The point of bringing Komisarek to the Leafs would be to add depth in strong defensive zone play. He blocks shots and he makes forwards pay. Also he is an exceptional penalty killer. Seriously for value I think he is the best guy out there. JaBo comes with baggage with lots of empties, and I would like to see how he would fare against Lucic.

    .
J-Bo would be the best? In what category? Offensively he has yet to come close to what Kaberle has done, and defensively their numbers are comparable. Both play top line minutes. Granted he’s bigger and maybe more punishing, but from what I understand he really doesn’t use his size all that much. If Schenn keeps up the improvement, and stays healthy he will be a bruising shutdown defenseman, second to none. You’re comparing apples and oranges here.
I’m not dissing J-Bo, but I’m not going to go and over-rate him either. Im worried about the cap, and our goals -against and for those factors I thought Komisarek would fit this defense better. He would instantly make our blueline a more punishing place to venture into.
I could be wrong about either, but it’s just an opinion, isn’t it?

Ja-bo is not worth anything over 5.5, maybe 6. His name is worth more then what he is because everyone hears his name and thinks he good, hes not. Kubina and Kaberle both put up better numbers then he did

Tampa bay still owes Burke a small Salary cap favour, burke trades Kabina and maybe stajan and picks up Lacavalier, I know the contract is huge but the guy can play hockey, and I think a coach like Wilson would only make him do better.
TB still loves Kabina because he was there when they won the cup, if you add Nash to the mix next year you have a pretty good 1st line.
Pahlsenn will come if Brian Burke can get him.

    Move Out
Ian White – not because I dislike the guy… I don’t – but max value right now
Matt Stajan – make the move for a pick or youngish roster player who is tougher – then replace with Dom Moore and ask Blake to pay half of Moore’s salary from his????
Kaberle – move to clear roster spot – plus this guy has given up in Toronto… he needs a fresh start… I really like the idea of combining him with another Leaf – perhaps Stajan going to a team which wants a puck moving D-man and TML takes a heavy salary dump plus pick in return.
Kubina for the right deal… and make a deal with him to waive his no trade without restrictions in advance of the season

Hossa or Gaborik – heavily incentive laden deal with no “No Trade Restrictions” – one or two year deal max… and then deal them at the trade-deadline if the team is

Cammalleri – no thanks – he’d be a duplicate of what Grabovski brings … and TML doesn’t have Iginla.

Sedins – too much money to wrap up in a 1A-combo – no thanks – and to me they don’t seem like leaders
Bouwmeester – only at the right price – either very short term 2 years at 7.5 or 5 at 5.5 AND only if TML moves Kaberle.

Komisarek is a Kubina without hte shot… no thanks.

The LaCavalier thing. Well if there’s any reality in it… then yes it is worth pursuing… BUT only to take him and move him to the Habs or Kings. If its the Habs.. make them pay dearly which in my mind would include at least 3 younger roster players that aren’t Tits. If LA.. then the package would have to include Dustin Brown and others.

Moore – only if Stajan has been moved out of town first and only at 1.75 for 3 year deal at most
Neil – maybe if Brad May isn’t returning – May is less expensive and brings what seems like a better type of leadership

    Gerber – at 1.5 – 1.9
    Nittimaki – at 1.5 – 1.9

Nik Antropov -at the right price

    how’s about
Mike Rupp from New Jersey – fourth line center who will scrap with just about anyone, low cost and large-tough
Alexei Semenov from San Jose – assuming both Kaberle and Kubina are headed out of town (let’s hope so)… he played brilliantly when the Sharks had injuries to their back-end… he’s large and has a mean steak
Francois Beauchemin – because he’s underrated… and up until this season wasn’t injury prone

at the risk of sounding a little like the beloved/hated Don Cherry… the Leafs need to become a little more Canadian and preferably Toronto anchored in terms of their roster…. if only the Kaberle for Carter deal had happened…

here’s hoping that both Philly and Pittsburgh underachieve in the post season. If they do I have not doubt that both teams will be looking at defense related issues – perhaps generating interest in K & K. Same hopefully with Tampa and potentially Dallas and Colorado.

On another note… what are people thinking with Afinigenov and Begin. Andre Deveaux brings everything Begin can and a bunch more… plus he’s younger. Afinigenov is on the outside in Buffalo for a reason .. he’s lazy… no thanks.
