Quick Hits: Moore, Jannik Hansen

The Ottawa Citizen‘s reporting “speculation” that Dominic Moore is interested in a return to the Maple Leafs this summer. Presumably, if Moore is interested then he’ll be ready to accept Burke‘s terms that he walked away from at the deadline. However, since the deadline we’ve seen John Mitchell ably step into Moore’s former role as a third line center that can provide a solid two-way presence as well as some offensive impetus. It seems that the third line center role is Mitchell’s for the taking at the start of the season. There could be other options available in terms of availing a roster spot such as parting ways with Matt Stajan, who has been rumoured to be on Burke’s summer shopping block.

Vancouver newspaper “The Province” is reporting that the Maple Leafs will “likely” submit an offer sheet for Canucks’ right-winger and RFA Jannik Hansen. The 23-year-old Dane posted 21 points in 55 games last season in his first “full” year in the pros (did have a few cups of coffee in the minors and sustained a few injuries). The scouting report on Hansen: “Possesses a wealth of hockey sense and playmaking ability from the wing position. Is also a defensively aware player who makes his linemates better. Doesn’t have a lot of jam, which could hurt his ability to thrive at the NHL level. Has a tendency to pass up shots in order to distribute the puck.” Details on the compensation due for signing a RFA to an Offer Sheet can be found here. It looks like Burke would be sacrificing at most a third round draft pick should an offer sheet for Hansen be accepted.

    Moore didn’t leave, he was traded for a pick. If it where up to him he would have stayed I’m sure. BB can make him a offer and he can take it or leave it. Besides everyone wants Stajan traded why not sign Moore and get picks for Stajan. You get a two way centerman who was the best Leafs on the ice most nights and draft picks to boot.

    Moore was traded because his head got big after a couple months of adequate hockey…hopefully floundering in Buffalo brought him back down to earth.

    @Kirk
    Thats exactly why Im glad we didnt end up drafting Schenn. Those two both seem to be the same player comming out of the CHL and I would hate to see us have him and turn out to be like Upshall. Would have wasted a year
