    As an optimistic leaf fan and not a GM of an nhl franchise im going to say what i would do without any though to it.

    Trade Kaberle,Stefonavich to Boston for Phil Kessel
    Trade Jason Blake,Mike Van Ryn 4th round pick to Dallas for Brad Richards
    Pray Kovalchuck is a UFA and make a run at him.

    Kovalchuck Richards Kessel

    just another note, Thomas Kaberle is better then ANY defencemn thats an unrestriced free agent in next year frenzy. If kaberle has a good year his value is through the roof and our price would be abstrumental at the deadline and next summer with 1 year remaining at just 4.25 million.

    @Ryan
    That would be cool, but I would be happy with just the Kessel deal. If you slaped Kessel on a line with Grabovski and Kulemin, that would be sick. Or even on with Blake and Tlusty or something. Other then who we get in a trade for Kaberle/White (whoever he lets go for a top 6) we should just stop there. No use on reloading our top 6 when we have Grabovski, Kulemin, Tlusty, Stalberg, Stefanovich, Bozak, and Hanson who alllllllll could be great top 6 players. Add in that we still have Blake and Hagman signed and we have enough. I know not all 7 guys will become great players, but let say 3 of them do. Those 3, added to Kessel hopefully, and you have yourself 4 top 6 right there. We wont know till the year is over how the progress is with alot of theses guys. Last year worked out great and Im hoping it gets better this year.

    Another thing I would like to comment on is that STUPID Eklund thing, with bother Kaberle and Kessel going to Vancouver. DOES HE HONESTLY THINK, THAT IF WE ENDED UP GETTING KESSEL WITHOUT LOSING KABERLE THAT BE WOULD TRADE HIM? OR BOTH? What a nut. Imagine if that happend and we had both, that would make my whole year! I would lose my mind. Eklund is such and idiot, he makes me wonder who I hate more, him or Berger….

    Hey guys, is there really need to be getting into insulting one another? Everyone is entitled to an opinion, why are we running people down for it? Obviously everyone on here wants the best possible deal for the Leafs and we can hope for and we’re shooting for the stars…that’s a great thing. A lot of it wont happnen, but who cares? It’s fun to dream and to throw it out there for other people’s thoughts.
    I think that the best deal we get for Kabby is Hodgson and a first. I would be surprised if they did that without us throwing in a guy like Poni as well. We might be able to get some other top prospect/player and a 1st pick…but its basically that deal and nothing more than that is really likely IMO. The chances of getting a top six, a top prospect AND a top pick for Kabs is virtually non existent. Maybe if we wait until the deadline and things go right, some desperate GM will do it, but right now nobody will mortgage their entire future.
    The question is, do you move Kabs…for a top six/top prospect plus a pick? I guess it would depend on the player and we should consider where the pick is coming from too. Like, LA’s pick is certainly going to be better than Vancouver’s or Boston’s.

    Kabs or Kabs+Poni(or who ever)

    FOR

    Kessel+1st pick
    Brassard+1st pick
    Hodgson+1st pick
    Filatov+1st pick
    Staal+1st pick

    I’m somewhat on the fence with this, part of me wants to keep Kabs and wait it out. What do you guys think?

    @ anyone who says wait until the trade deadline

    Burke made it clear he won’t ask anyone with a no trade to waive it. Whether or not that means anything- who knows. But I wouldn’t risk not trading him now. Also, if the Leafs make the playoffs, we can’t trade him next off season. Guys, if he walks at the end of next year and we got nothing in return, that would be such a huge blow. It’s bad enough how our “captain” screwed us, let’s not screw ourselves this time.

    Your right, and Im sure Burke has decided what he wants to do. He can either keep him, or trade him. Im ok with either decision depending on who comes back. If Burke feels he wants to trade him, he will before the 15th. Hes a smart guy and wont be fleeced like our other GMs were. Like looka at the Kubina situation. Did anyone think he could have got that good of deal, then replaced him with Komisarek for 4.5 mil? I sure didnt, but I know that what he planned and it worked out, so Im sure he has something planned for Kaberle

    How about trading White or MVR along with Kulemin and a 3rd round pick to Pittsburg for Jordan Staal and a 4th round pick? Pittsburg might consider giving up their 3rd line centre as good as he is (still their third liner) for a young winger who had great chemistry with Malkin in Russia and a puck moving defenceman to compliment Gonchar, and to offset some of the lost defence, Hall and Scuderi, and a 3rd round pick to sweeten the deal. Toronto gets a 20year old stud defencemen. That would still allow Toronro to deal Kaberle for additional forward upgrade (Kessel or Kesler or Hodgson) and a pick.

    @ lonsmos
    They have Letang as a puckmoving d-man to compliment Gonchar. The two defensemen they lost in Gill and Scuderi were defensive d-men not puckmovers.
    .
    Pittsburgh is not going to trade Staal unless they get the MOON in return. One winger who had chemistry with Malkin (not really the hardest guy to have chemistry with) isn’t going to be enough.

    @danvertising

    Even though Staal is an awesome 20 year old I don’t know about the moon for a third line centre being paid $4m annually, seems to me they could improve team in other areas and a young winger with PROVEN chemistry with Malkin and yes they lost defensive D but they also saw what a loss it was when Gonchar got hurt and they already traded Witney. Signed McKee already to replace Gill.
