Maple Leafs Name Three Assistant Captains for 2009-10 Season
Per Kevin McGran at the Toronto Star:
On a day a former Maple Leafs captain formally announced his retirement, coach Ron Wilson said the team would again start the season captainless.
Newcomers Mike Komisarek and Francois Beauchemin however will join Tomas Kaberle as three alternate captains.
McGran notes that Wilson suggested the captaincy issue would be revisited in roughly a month’s time from now, at which point the coach will consider whether one of his three assistants should be given the role or whether the team should remain captainless for another season.

Beauchemin is the ideal captain…You may not have seen it because he was behind two of the best 5 defencmen in the last decade (Scott Nedimeyer, Chris Pronger) The guy can fight, play defence and hope fully get some goals with his slap shot one timer from kaberle. He would look great in the white jersey with the big C on his jersey!

leafs are grooming Schenn…..the next captain will be short term….whoever he is…..if they give it to Komisarek, then Schenn will get an A until Komisarek is done with the Leafs…….on another note, does anyone else feel a bit disappointed with Exelby? i know he can hit, but his defense was brutal in pre season….maybe real games will wake him up in his own end.

A Canadian, an American , and a Czech vowing for Captain…Hmmmm, what nationality is Brian Burke, and Ron Wilson? As far as I am concerned it is between Beauchemin and Komiserik, I would be happy with either…Just name someone please…If Komiserik becomes Captain, would he be the first American Leaf Captain? Just curious…

I’d keep the “A” on all of Beauchemin, Komisarek & Kaberle for this year and see which one of them plays for it. If none of them play well for it then wait longer until you have Kadri, Kessel, Schenn, Komisarek, Beauchemin & Bozak to choose from next year.

Personally I think in a few years Tyler Bozak should have an “A” on his jersey.
