Gustavsson Good for Monday?

UPDATE: Gustavsson is skating on the ice, and Ron Wilson has suggested he might be playing on Saturday despite just one practice. Also, rumors circulating Leafs could be after Frolov. Hockey Central at Noon suggests the possibility of Burke potentially sacrificing future in order to prevent Bruins from landing top 5 pick.

Jonas Gustavsson skated in a full practice with the team on Tuesday, but despite Ron Wilson believing he is potentially ready for Saturday night’s game, it’s more likely he’ll see action on Monday night instead.

The Leafs are still eagerly seeking their first win of the season, going 0-6-1 through their first 7 games, tying the 2nd worst start to NHL history of all-time. If the Leafs fail to win any of their next 4 appearances, they will tie the worst start in NHL history at 11 straight losses with the 1943-44 New York Rangers.

Wilson believes Gustavsson will get the start on Monday night when the Leafs visit the Anaheim Ducks. Gustavsson is 0-2 this season (credited with a loss iin the Capitals 6-4 win, he stepped into as Toskala was burned for 3 early) with a 3.02 GAA.

The Leafs defense core has been getting a bit better, but without solid and consistent goaltending, the team will continue to struggle. I am sure many players are hoping the Monster can step in and immediately provide some confidence in net so the others can start to play their game more effectively. Without solid goaltending, it’s hard to critique the play of any player as they could merely be lacking the confidence to adequately play their own game with the constant thought that the next shot against is going in.

Ron Wilson hopes to instill some confidence and a breath of fresh air in his club on this trip. Hopefully the Leafs can makes some good out of having a week off from their loss against the New York Rangers.

hey all, a first timer here. im a leafs fan living in vancouver area, surrounded by canuckleheads. therefore i need an outlet and am hoping it to be received here! i was able to attend both marlies games in abbotsford and will offer my very amatuerish observations for those who are interested!
i sat myself right behind the leafs bench just so i could hear the players/coaches interact, it was a lot of fun! anyhoo here we go…
    tyler bozak
we all all pumped about this guy and i was excited to get to watch him. he was always the first one on the ice and the last one to leave. a true love for the game. he played a lot with jeff hamilton and deveaux. he has his first goal in the second game and looked pretty happy to break that goose egg! he’s pretty small, but fast and attentive. i met his second cousin there hehe.
    christian hanson
he had a MONSTER of a first game (1 goal 2 assists and a fight) but was relatively invisible for the second game. he didn’t play with bozak at all (i was hoping for a slighjt shade of the frat pack!)
    jiri tlusty
they are really working on this guy’s defensive game. he was pretty much on every penelty kill along with zigomanis! he also had a goal and an assist i believe! i just hope he can get his game together at the nhl level!
    carl gunnarsson
i can see why we got rid of stralman. a good outlet passer and can also carry the puck in, he logged PLENTY of minutes for the marlies, both on PK and PP.
    jonas frogren
remember this guy?! does he work in the home interior business during the off season? cause can he ever WALLPAPER. and I mean opposing players! he can definitely lay the body but was lacking in his defensibilites…not moving his feet and not pursuing the puck. was entertaining to watch tho!
i’ll leave you with that for now, sorry if it’s not super in-depth! during the second game there was an all-out brawl in the first period. all 10 guys on the ice got into a huge scrum! old time hockey that’s for sure. i was also impressed with the intersity of oreskovic and greenop. i actually thought greenop played well when he wasnt in the box! anyways thnaks for reading!

Anyone: I just thought of something that I’ve wondered about for a long time but have never been able to figure out. Why did Ottawa let Chara get away? Did he want out? Seems like one of the worst moves they ever made.

I had heard Burke was on “the hour”…didn’t see it,but so much for BB keeping underground/quiet.I mean, wtf is he going on there for? What’s next, fireside chat w/Mansbridge?

The more BB talks, the deeper the hole he digs for himself and the Leafs.

I have heard numerous tv types say that BB can’t tell a lie,ie;you ask him about a underachieving player(see Antropov),he’ll tell you straight up he was playing poorly.Continually undermining perceived worth/value.

BB’s schtick is getting old fast, and wiser fans can see that it does the team no favours;well, other than to feed our GM’s massive ego.

There are 2 reaosn we want Goose to succeed.

1: He becomes the future goalie

2: He gets signed to a huge enough offer sheet in the off season and we get 2 firsts and a 3rd round pick by not matching.

Starting goal tender for a decade, or 2 first round picks. I know what a certain unholy one would pick.

Just watched the Burke on OTR clip.

Funny how wrong he is in hindsight…. but hindsight is 20-20.

That whole not smiling thing makes him look like such a child. wow… does he not realize Landsberg is humiliating and patronizing him…. does he really think that keeping a gruff look makes him look smarter or something.
