Weekend Notes + Tickets – Update: Trades?

Update: Damien Cox is reporting that Burke is currently working on at least two possible trades.

- The Toronto Sun‘s got a very interesting quote from Ron Wilson. When broached about the possibility of call-ups from the Marlies, the head coach replied: “It would give us a boost, but because we are kind of limited, we can’t send anybody down”. You’re kidding right? What happened to all that preseason talk about burying underperforming veterans in the minors? Where’s the accountability?

- Darren Dreger offers up some speculation as to what could be a very busy offseason next summer with as many as 17 free agents, 11 of whom will be unrestricted. He mentions that Stajan is a very likely candidate to be traded, and Ponikarovsky seems to be the only one who will be offered an extension.

- Prospect Notes: Nazem Kadri had a pair of very impressive games this past week, first in the OHL vs. Russia Subway Series, displaying a ton of poise and skill running the powerplay and then notching 3 assists against Erie last night. Jimmy Hayes, the Leafs‘ 2008 2nd round selection, is showing signs of breaking out in the NCAA, with a 4 assist game last week and another goal last night.

- Once again, a pair of purples avaiable at cost for the Monday night’s game against John Tavares and the New York Islanders. First come first serve basis via email please.

What I want to know is, is Hayes still playing a passive game or is he actually hitting people?

That’s good news about Hayes….I see his role as a nice 3rd line guy. Someone who could compliment a Hanson very well. The size would be hard to handle…

Was at the Knights game last night…can’t wait to see Kadri lacing up for the blue & white. Kid plays with a lot of heart and has a ridiculous skill set. Kadri-Kessel will be a dynamite duo for years to come.

Any details on what the trades might be? Cox seems like a reliable source. I’m pretty sure he had the Kubina deal before anyone else.

Andrew Ebbet got claimed by the Wild off waivers from the Hawks.I think if Burke had a chance at claiming him he would have.

Will Burke obviously would have had a chane at claiming him as the Leafs are currently in last place and get first dibs at any players placed on waivers!!

I take it that Burke doesn’t really care for Ebbett. He never played for the Ducks until after Burke left and this is the second time Burke didn’t claim him on waivers. At 5’9″ he’s not really a Burke type player.

I hope Cox is a reliable source because the Leafs need to make a change.

Hopefully Burkie pulls the trigger soon. Either on a trade or a gun pointed at Jason Blake.

Aren’t the leafs at the 50 contract limit right now? Which is why he couldn’t put a claim in in the 1st place.

    @ Nights
I may be wrong on this but I think the players that were sent back to junior don’t count against the 50.

right, one of only 2 plus players on the team, the other being White, and the leading goal scorer. We don’t need um right, just toss um away like we did Antropov.

I’m glad Burke is going to give him an extension over all the other dead weight, I’d give Poni Blake’s Salary any day.
