Tlusty Lost, Paradis Gained

Here’s a description of Paradis from the 2009 McKeen’s Hockey Draft Guide with a quote from CHL reporter for Rogers Sportsnet Patrick King.

Paradis makes up for a lack of skill through his work ethic, which is among the best in the draft. He’s a heart-and-soul player who recklessly sacrifices his body for his team. His defensive positioning is one of his strongest attributes, as Paradis cuts off passing lanes and will dive to knock an errant puck out of the zone.

Paradis likes mixing it up and never backs down from a physical confrontation. He finishes his checks hard and has the strength to drive through his opponents. He is fairly disciplined in his approach, however, and will let up on a hit if the other player is in a vulnerable position.

Paradis is not a natural scorer and was almost sent down his first year due to a lack of production. His shot needs improvement, particularly on the velocity as he will try to beat a goaltender five-hole when the top corner is open. He sometimes appears reluctant to shoot as he does not possess the soft hands to make the plays in tight.

“He will never put up gaudy offensive totals but his work ethic and presence will make him an effective pro,” McKeen’s managing editor Patrick King said.

Paradis thrives on physical contact and wins many battles along the boards. He will take a hit to make a play and is fairly safe in his approach defensively. His top-end speed is deceptive as he never stops moving his feet. He’s a safe pick given his will to succeed.

    @ modernhipster:
Rogers cuts off the services to customers who are either
A: delinquent for 90 days with zero payments made, and a broken promise to pay.
    OR
B: delinquent for 120 days with zero payments made.

    @ wiski:

OR when a payment is made arrangement is made and the customer service representative forgets to make all the proper notations.

That company is going to blow itself up. Since the old man died, they’ve been making upper and middle management cuts galore. My aunt, employed for 17yrs by Rogers was let go without notice last week. They handed her a paper bag with her paperwork, etc. and escorted her to the exit. They did the same thing with one of her co-workers, only 2yrs from retirement and full pension.

That gives them enough money to hire 10 call centre agents to harass their customers for being even a few days late on their bill.

Anyway, cleared things up with them, watching the game on HD Leafs TV now.

    @ modernhipster:
Maybe if people didn’t call on day 89 to make payment arrangements, but instead paid in full and on time their Aunt’s would still have a job.

Kind of sad that an offensive calibre prospect is out of the system but its great that we have a big grinder center coming up who can replace Primeaus role down the road. The 3rd/4th line really do set the energy tone for games and work ethic/heart/passion mean a ton. I hope this big young guy can carry it forward. So I like the trade, never did see Tlusty knocking off Stalberg, Hanson, Kadri, Bozak.

my guess is that BB knew it would be difficult to sign Tlusty after this year. he hasn’t been with the big club enough and probably thinks he deserves to be. so i dont see anything wrong with trading him but i’m not too excited about this trade in particular. seems like we trade what could be a good 2nd line scorer for what could be a new Primeau.

perhaps burke feels paradis is much like tangradi, and may start to excel offensively as he gets older.

    @ long_suffering_leaf_fan:
I believe if they give him just a few more NHL games and it doesn’t work out then he would have to clear waivers to go back down.

Whether Paradis turns out to be a 1st liner or 4th line he is going to be well like. He’s a balls to the wall player! A heart and soul guy. Thats at least 1 thing he has over Tlusty. If Paradis ever makes the team he will be a fan favorite.

Good luck to Tlusty down in Carolina. They could use some help of any kind. Hopefully Paradis developes well and uses that work ethic to his and our benefit. It will be a while, but I hope he works out for us.
