Im bias because Pat Roy is my favourite player of all time (which is weird cause im not a goalie and i dont usually like goalies) but i think Patrick Roy stole more cups than Brodeur did. The series against Flordia back in the day was a goalie display ill never forget, Flordias head coach (whose name eludes me my apoloigies) said that they coudlnt get a pea past Roy. He stole a few cups and was the best ever at his position IMHO.
Respect to Broduer but you sell tickets to see Roy and tickets to see Broder and more people will pay to see Roy. I knwo not a legit arguemnt for skill and domination but as far as Infamy is concerned…..

I really dislike Patty Roy. Arrogant, ignorant and thinks he’s the man. I also don’t liek Brodeur’s attitude on occassion, but I’d take him over Roy any day. Not to mention Roy has the biggest peice of shit son in the world.

Well i would take an arrogant, confident, winking goalie anyday over the pussycat we have in Toskala. Having a goalie who is full of himself is a great thing, see Guster in 4 years hes gonna be a DICK and ill love it, as was Belfour that mans an asshole got a ring though.
You dont know his kid, and you didnt folow his career (assumptions), you saw a fight and judged him on that. Or probably more so on the fact he left hockey to play in his band, neither of which makes him the biggest piece of shit son.

does anyone know whart side schenn plays on D? i think it is left and taht is fucked up. Twice now, when he was on the right side he laid 2 people out (one last night and i forget the other game). He is obviously stronger on the right side so why do they keep playing him on the left ?

LOL… obviously I’d take “an arrogant, confident, winking goalie anyday over the pussycat we have in Toskala.” I got no problem with his blinking and such haha.
I’d love to see Gustavsson become a dick, but he seems to mild mannered.

WOOOAH ED. You have no idea what I know about this kid… so you are going to tell me? I’ve seen his ‘band’ and most of tha stuff is what I was basing my criticism on. You can’t even call what he did a fight… the other goalie had no intention of fighting at all and he came down and beat on him (not to mention there were reports that Patrick sicked his son on him)… if that happened in the NHL you would be calling him a total clown. I have seen interviews and other things and the kid is a total douchebag. He’s done nothing in his life except hang onto his father’s tailcoat. The funny part is he doesn’t even seem to know if he’s a rapper or a singer…

Schenn plays the right side when Wilson isn’t drinking… that’s his natural position and looks 10 times better than when he’s on the left.

hahahah thats why i put assumptions because you have to admit odds were in my favour. Ohh i saw the clip and Patty Roy definatly sent him down the ice to go get the other goalie, and he turtled pretty bad, well to the point he was almost charged for it so yeah thats a brutal scenario.
my question is why would you see his “band”, and did you say rapper? :)

yeah i know schenn plays better on the right side BY A LOT! But Wilson still puts him on the left side… its like they want his confidence to go down or something

Sure Roy was a great goalie. I don’t like him though. Never cheered for him.

One of those Avalanche Cup runs, his equipment was easily twice as large as that of Cujo or any other goalie at the time.

Either that or Patty got fatty.

It’s a tough call. As a long suffering Leafs fan, I would agree that one year of that sad excuse for hockey that the Devil’s organization espouses would be worth it if the Leafs could win the Cup, but on principal, I think everything possible should be done to eliminate it from the face of the earth. I watch hockey (and sports in general) to be entertained… if I want to be bored to death I can go shopping anytime, or watch paint dry… or the grass grow (in the summner), all of which are the equivalent of watching the Devils play hockey… not “frustrating”, unbearable, that’s why I never do (unless they are playing the Leafs, and then it is torture time).
I don’t know about that. Sure, it’s not an exciting brand of hockey. But watching your team WIN is more entertaining to me.

In some twisted sort of way I agree with you, but we are looking at it from the perspective of fans of a team that has not done much in the last 42 years… The Jersey fans (is that an oxymoron?) are not showing up despite the fact of the team’s renowned (infamous?) success over the last decade or so.

I would take “Lemairian ice torture” for a year too if it meant winning, but not sure how much I would watch before the playoffs.

Oh, to be truthful, I did forget to mention that one of the reasons for the empty prime seats at the “new” arena in Jersey might be because a lot of potential fans are flocking to see the Nets, since basketball is a bigger sport south of the border (sad but true).

Never liked him either, but he was the best. Too mega and also has a few screws loose. I loved it that time he had made a glove save, think it was against Detroit, and in his desire to show off he inadvertently threw the puck in the net and the goal counted. That was classic! Looked good on him.

Brodeur is a way better character, but not sure he is the better goalie.

hahaha I know eh, welcome to the city of show me what youve done, not what your gonna do. I think RW is great for this team and is the futur and you cant fault him for trying to find some stuff with the players he has it just seems he is trying the illogical first and eliminating those before he heads to the pairings that make sense, IMO.
Also how you remember im the third always amazes me and you drop it so perfectly when your scolding me.

you can say broduer played on defensive teams but roy’s teams in colordo were stacked (sakic, forsberg, tanguay, foote, blake, bourque, hedjuk, etc) i know broduer had some good dmen, but since neidermayer left the defencemen on this team have been pretty much no names.

That’s the point, it’s not the players, it’s the system… stifling neutral zone trap hockey which bores the hell out of even the opposition.

Understood, but even the great Montreal team of the 70’s was defensively responsible as were the Islanders . Even Edmonton realized they weren’t going to win Stanley Cups by winning games 11-9 consistently. The obvious method is a mixture of both, but the players have to be committed and the coaching is key. I don’t think the present coach with his 1200 games , over 500 wins and .495 win percentage in the playoffs is up to the task (LOL).

Agreed, but there is a big difference between “defensively responsible” and “irresponsibly boring neutral zone trap hockey”, which Lemaire has perfected and is now “infecting” the league with.

Another point in favour of Roy was that he carried the Smurfettes (just for that he should be hated) to two Cups… what was it that one year… 10 OT wins!

hahah long live the Irish my friend, well we are still a monarchistic country in a way. The Crown is the foundation of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the Canadian government. We say we are not but we still have the Governal General to the Queen and she has been used recently to prorogue (sp) the governemnt. I think its cool to live in a scoiety like that, that honours its traditions and the sort, i know the monarchy has peaks and valleys of popularity within England but i hope it is never abolished. Nor do i think it will, it will be very interesting once we have a king again as i feel people are more ocmfortable being “subservant” to a queen than a king in these days.

I would think that the Leafs want Luke to be able to play either side should the need arise in the future. We know this is just year two of his learning and development. When Luke learns to play the left side well, I would think that would have the effect of increasing his confidence, as he will know he can do the job if asked to. Or the team finds out that he can’t do it. I think it’s too early to tell, but now is the time to find out. I’m betting on Luke handling anything the Leafs ask him to do, and being the better player for it.

I really dislike Patty Roy too. One summer I was at a hockey camp in Quebec that his son was at. He was there helping out with the goalies but refused to give anyone an autograph. I mean…you’re at a camp full of kids who love hockey and won’t give them the time of day. Not only that but we would all take turns going out for the goalie practices to help take shots on them, most of the guys made Roy’s son look like Swiss cheese, he was nowhere near one of the better goalies there.

I played pickup hockey on an outdoor rink a few times against his younger brother several years back….and he was pretty quiet, respectful, nice kid in general. Mind you, because he was making us old guys look bad he’d have the odd ‘accidental’ trip.
