- On Leafs Lunch this afternoon, it was mentioned that rookie forward Viktor Stalberg has been medically cleared to play and will suit up against the Calgary Flames tonight. No official word yet on who will sit out.

- Forward prospect Chris Didomenico will re-join the Drummondville Voltigueurs and continue his rehab process after suffering a gruesome leg injury late last season. He has been back on his skates for about 2 weeks now, but is not expected to see game action until late February – early March.

I don’t mind a lot of the American players though. The US Olympic team has some real studs on it. I would take Suter, Ryan, Pavelski, Kane, Stastny, Parise, E.Johnson, Rafalski, Thomas, Miller, Brown and Langenbrunner on my team any day. There’s just not a wealth of high-end Canadian talent available over the next couple years. Marleau maybe, but again, for his price, he’s not the Thornton of his team. Bozak, Kadri, and our 4th liners will have to be our Canadian representatives for the next little while. Beauchemin and Schenn are two fine Canadians also. Swedes, Fins and Northern Americans are all fine by me. Russians can be a tad wishy-washy, but Kulemin is a gem.

Also, Semin is going to test free agency in 2011, so I wouldn’t mind him. As long as you have Canadian leadership, all is fine.

I don’t disagree with you on any of those points, but the fact remains you should NOT use the location of a players birth as a measuring stick for their value (other intangibles like a KHL jump threat are individual, for every Radulov there is a Malkin).
I want the BEST players on my team, its that simple. Maybe I am coming off like I am only counting skill in my definition of best. I am not. Best all around, most tallented, most heart, most drive. All together.
amazing all around players come from all over the world, not just Canada, Modano, Malkin, Roenick, Ovechkin, Hasek, Leetch I could go on forever and I would take them over lesser Canadian players any day

Modano use to be one of my favourite players to watch. Americans do have good players, you can’t count out Zack PAraise, even though his dad is a former Canadian player. I do like the Swedish and Finnish hockey system, they are producing some exceptional players. IMO there are few Russian how play full heartedly for the NHL. But here is example of the Leafs selecting a player all on the basis of size and rank, I would assume, instead of perhaps looking at a Canadian kid and his back ground; 2009 draft Leafs Draft#:128 Eric Knodel, a few spots away Nashville Draft#:132 Gabriel Bourque, which do you think will have a bigger impact in the NHL???

using 5th round draft picks is a bit of a stretch because it takes the crap shoot that is the draft and turns it onto throwing darts in the dark, you have a good idea where the board is and where you want to hit, but the chance of a bulls eye is astronomical.
Bourque is looking like a great sleeper pick, but he lasted to the 132nd pick for a reason.
Knodel is a project and a half, he is also more than half a foot taller than Borque and almost 70lbs heavier.

    @ jaredoflondon:
So they drafted another Paul Mara, and thats because this league is not geared towards speed and skill BUT big slow goons???

    @Diggler
I’m not saying it was the right choice, I’m just saying at the draft, especially in the later rounds drafting an over sized player is a safer bet than drafting an undersized one. You cant teach height.

I just feel this team is not being managed correctly, and we as the fans are paying for it, and will for a long time.

a player like Meulher gets a look BECAUSE he is struggling not in spite of it. Players like Simmonds and Horton would cost the Leafs the farm to get. The goal is maximum return for minimum price.
And who is to say Burke didn’t look into Muzzin? Just because he didn’t sign him doesn’t mean he didn’t try to.
Burke has brought in 3 Americans (Kessel, Komi, Hanson) 2 European (Gustavsson and Wallin) and 5 Canadians (Bozak, Beauchemin, Primeau, Paradis and Orr) though trades.
He drafted Canadians 3(Kadri, Blacker, Devane) and 4 Americans (Ryan, D’Amagio, Knodel and Smith

    Seems pretty even to me
    He also drafted

He just finished drafting Kadri, Devane and Blacker – all from Toronto or the Toronto area. Bozak and Schenn are from Saskatchewan. White is from Manitoba. Beauchemin is from Quebec. A large chunk of our core moving forward is going to be Canadian.

I can`t wait till the end of the season, I know this team won`t make the playoffs, sadly another year. When Burke has a clean slate, and a whole bunch of spots to fil on his roster, lets see what he can do, I`m very interested for the draft too.

    @ honesthockey

He plays the second most minutes on our team, has shown that he can play in any situation, has shown both offensive and defensive capabilities, and is a plus player on the third worst team in the league. He may not be worth a first yet, but he’s a really good defenceman who is likely a top-4 on any other team in the league minus a couple.
