NJ Wins Despite First Shutout of Season
A shining example and further proof of New Jersey’s dominance recently. Even when blanked for the first time this season, the Devils still ended up with a win, the full two points, and Martin Brodeur extended his record string of shutouts.
Just like in the pre-lockout NHL, keepers going the distance with a goose-egg after 60 minutes and the five-minute overtime, both garnered shutouts.
Post lockout, when goaltenders enter the shootout tied at 0-0, they both earn the shutout, yet, like in the 1-0 shootout win over the Rangers, the Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur earned a win, and Henrik Lundqvist took the loss.
The shutout by the NYR was the first time in 2009-10 that the New Jersey Devils had been blanked and the first time the franchise entered a shootout game tied at 0-0.
The Devils also marked the 19th team to enter the shootout tied at zeros in the NHL.
