“Major Changes” – Dreger
Looks like last nights debacle collapse has been a catalyst as Darren Dreger of TSN reports that “Major Changes coming today for the Toronto Maple Leafs”. Dreger wonders if the Hiller extension could have something to do with it.
This much we know: The team is bad as it’s currently composed with just a few pieces to a complex puzzle with only one major component. Keep an eye on MLHS and TSN today for updates when and if these changes occur.
What’s your speculation? Is it a Kovalchuk deal? I say no. Could it be the long talked about cap space for draft pick rumor? Something no one has mentioned yet? Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments.

Quit trolling.
The OC register says exactly what Dreger said Toskala + for Giguere.
I am guessing the + is Exelby. There is no first coming this way, and Blake isn’t going to Anaheim.

Gigs for J Blake and Toskola done. As per Dregger twitter

All the radio guys are saying this is a 3 for 4 deal. I think tomorrow’s headline reads:
Matt Stajan thrown in for Elisha Cuthbert
January 31st, 2010 at 12:55 pm
Dreger saying Giguere for Toskala and Blake, no picks.
January 31st, 2010 at 12:55 pm
I no first is involved
I’ll me very dissapointed

No #1 in the deal

WTF!!!! This is a dream come true!!! JB and VT traded to Anaheim for JSG!! Just got the alert on my phone!

Sorry, I’ll stop posting what news sources are saying, because that makes me a troll? Certainly didn’t mean to offend.

We cleared some roster space, acquired a once elite D-man who is still young. Hopefully a change of scenery is what’s required. Great deal Burkie.
Giggy for one year is no big deal in terms of the cap. Multiple years would be different, but he provide’s Gus a nice mentor as they have similar styles as big goalies.
Plus if we really get rid of Toskala, ANY return is a bonus.
January 31st, 2010 at 12:57 pm
Why would they get a #1 for a terrible goaltender and a checking line forward? lol
January 31st, 2010 at 12:59 pm
Just looking at Dion’s stats…20 goals in his rookie season. 50 and 60 points in his 2nd and 3rd seasons. Last season he took a dip, with only 11 goals and 47 points. This season he has 10 already, so he should get roughly 17 or so. We all know he plays with an edge too. I personally can’t wait to see him play here. I’m glad we didn’t give up Schenn. Those 2 on our back end should be nasty for years to come. Shit, imagine Kaberle and Dion on the PP. And Dion is still very young too. Plus he plays on a very boring team. I like it.

Giguere for Toskala AND BLAKE. OMG! Burke is officially a genius.
Oh Dregs don’t be wrong on this…
January 31st, 2010 at 12:59 pm
Gayyyyyyy
No first… Sooooo gay
January 31st, 2010 at 12:59 pm
BLAKE AND TOSKALA FOR GIGUERE. AS PER DERREN DREGER.

Wow…I’m gonna go tryout for the Leafs…I think they need some forwards! Hopefully, the next move involves a center. Maybe a salary dump.
January 31st, 2010 at 1:01 pm
@ McKelvie:
Kind of expected that…Would YOU trade a first to toronto for that dog’s breakfast?
January 31st, 2010 at 1:01 pm
Awesome. Finally Blake is gone. We are very fortunate to dump him. Now if we bury Finger…..welcome Kovalchuk to TO….lol
January 31st, 2010 at 1:02 pm
It’s true!! It’s true!! lol…how did Burkie pull that off??
January 31st, 2010 at 1:03 pm

I give BB credit. He knows how to make news. I was a basher of BB up till now. At least he doesn’t stand for mediocrity. And he doesn’t try to clean the mess with minor deals. This is Huuuuuuuuge!
January 31st, 2010 at 1:04 pm
We trade the worst goalie in the NHL & an ‘untradeable’ contract (both players for more years) for a solid back-up within only a 1 year caphit?
I can’t believe Anaheim took BOTH Blake & Toskala. Burke’s best deal to date.
January 31st, 2010 at 1:05 pm
I think the leafs will be done for now. It is audition time for some minor league players as in those deals we lost 4 forwards and only gained one. I am a little worried that we just lost 3 of our top “point getters” if you can call them that lol and we gained not an ounce of offence…other than Dions rocket but that doesn’t exactly help up front. Look for Stalberg to get a shot a long with hanson, and Rosehill to permanently take Mayers spot on the 4th line.

Man, we are rebuilding. We just acquired Phaneaf, got rid of guys we probably wouldn’t resign (White does hurt), and dumped two untradeable contracts – players everyone on this board thought were untradeable.
Fantastic morning.

Stalberg Bozak Kessel
Kulemin Grabovski Poni
Stempniak Mitchell Sjostrom
Rosehill Primeau Orr
Hahaha! Wallin is STILL the extra forward!!!
Not that bad of a lineup I guess as long as Stalberg and Bozak can be consistent and show they belong.

If your worried about winning the Stanley Cup this year, I agree. If your concern is rebuilding the Leafs, today is absolutely huge. I’ll repeat once more – we just traded the worst goalie in the league & an untradeable contract & won on the cap hit return.
Burke will focus on the forward ranks, bolstering with young talent. We already have some in the system, but need more. As our GM said “We’re still open for business”.
January 31st, 2010 at 1:18 pm
@ McKelvie:
I guess I just moved around the shells eh? At least neither of us had Wallin in there!!!
January 31st, 2010 at 1:23 pm
RW just said he hasn’t been fair to Rickard Wallin and is going to get him more Ice time!!!! Oh well…I guess it’s not all good news! LOL! Maybe he means with the Marlies!!!
January 31st, 2010 at 1:24 pm
Man Burke must
