Maple Leafs Trade Vesa Toskala & Jason Blake To Ducks For J-S Giguere
The Maple Leafs have traded G Vesa Toskala and F Jason Blake to the Ducks for G Jean-Sebastien Giguere.
There is no first-round pick coming to Toronto, as rumoured.
Giguere has another year left with a $6M cap hit.
Toskala is an unrestricted free agent. Blake has another 2 years at $4m per.
Burke: “We’re not done.” I’d hope so, considering there are no forwards left. Exciting!

everyone is forgetting about the hidden piece to this trade…..elisha cuthbert….i would have traded stajan straight up for her….phaneuf is just a bonus….now edmonton has hilary duff, ottawa has carrie underwood and we have alisha…in my eyes we are the winners….but to each their own…..

It’s from a scouting report from one of our guys, and Wilson also mentioned it too (no offense remark).
Southern Alta? I bet you guys got some of the greatest hunting grounds there, eh?

Well Burkie finally made his splash. And he did it in a big way! What we got is a potential franchise d-man who has stuggled a bit the last 2 years. But he’s only 24. We got a starting goalie. We got a 4th liner with not much potential but is a hard worker. And we got a young defensive prospect which we needed.
What we gave up a terrible back-up goalie, a hard-working 3rd liner who wastes oppurtunities and has a bad attitude, a solid 2nd line scoring forward, a better than you think 2nd or 3rd line center, a hard working 4th liner, and a good 2nd pairing d-man.
I thought we were supposed to fire this guy Burke cause he didn’t know anything about hockey. Lol. This reminds me of the day we got Gilmour. You cannot wipe the smile off my face just like you couldn’t that day.
Phaneuf will change this team and will be the Captain as soon as next year.

Had not heard about the scouting report. In any event, he is a young guy with plent of upside.
I don’t hunt, but a lot of my extended family does, have been to some hunting spots, as we are only an hour away from the Rockies, and they are spectacular, no doubt. You need to come here, once you do, you will stay! (Just a plug for my area of the country!!)

@ MapleHeart:
Who cares who’s going to score goals now?!
This was a day for the long term future of the team, not the near term as in Calgary. I dropped to my knees and thanked the Lord above that I will never have to look through a Leaf goalie mask and see the deer-caught-in-the-headlights look Toskala seemed to wear all the time. The look that instantly deflated the rest of the team so many times. If the Leafs would have had Giguere ( or a goalie of similar talent) they would have won at least 7 or 8 more games this year, and had a chance to make the playoffs. But I don’t give a damn about the playoffs or scoring goals in the next couple of months. We don’t want to just make the playoffs, we want a team that can dominate in the playoffs and win the Stanley Cup.
I never EVER thought Burke could trade either Toskala or Blake and their ridiculous contracts, to do so in one deal AND get a valuable player in return is genius. I thought it was inevitable that he would have to dump them somewhere and get nothing, just to get rid of them.
Do not worry about goal scoring, I’m sure Burke will apply the same tenacity to dealing for scorers when the time is right. He said his philosophy is to build from the net out and he’s sticking to that philosophy.
I would hazard a guess that when the Kaberle trade didn’t come through last year with Boston; and then he did the subsequent trade for Kessel – that in the back of his mind the Kessel trade for draft picks could be a chess move – Kaberle could still go to Boston packaged with Schenn or something else, to get that #1 draft pick back. And if that happens, the future of the Leafs is really on the right track.

What a great day after a nightmare the night before.

Blake and Toskala in the same deal. When I heard that this morning I thought the radio guys were making a joke.
This is actually a spectacular trade. Will miss White. But Calgary will love him, so good for him. I hope he’s appreciated.
And now I will wait for the first Kaberle to Phaneuf PP pass that gets rocketed into the net.
