Leafs Claim Jaime Lundmark

TSN’s Bob Mckenzie is reporting that the Maple Leafs have claimed forward Jaime Lundmark off waivers from the Calgary Flames. The 29 year old Lundmark was originally drafted 9th overall in 1999 by the New York Rangers. In 280 career NHL games, Jamie has recorded 39 goals and 57 assists. In 47 games with the Flames over the past 2 seasons, Lundmark has accumulated 12 goals and 25 points, while also earning 15 minutes of ice-time this season. In Lundmark, the Leafs will hope to reproduce the same waiver wire success they experienced with Dominic Moore, picking up a feisty two-way player with respectable offensive numbers at other levels.

Here is a trade idea. Please give me your feed back (like I need to ask).
Looking at Pittsburgh and the cap issues they face, the chalenge to keep their core players together, it is hard to imagine how they would be able to bring back a 36 year old Gonchar next year. If Kaberle (4.25M) has a strong Olympic they might be inclined to try him on their highly skilled team. They would get him this year and next. Now for them to get him they would need cap relief. This could be made possible thru us taking back Kunitz who is signed at 3.75M thru 2012. Now to sweeten the pot some more we take back Fedetenko (1.8M) and give them a clear upgrade in Ponikarovski (2.1M)for their run this year. These moves work within the cap for Pittsburgh, they also adress team needs for this year and next. Now to make this work for Toronto we would need to have Tangradi added to the trade, this gives Toronto a significant piece moving forward. We could add in prospect Keith Aulie, as Pittsburgh needs inexpensive help on their blue line for years to come.
My feeling is that this works for both teams. Some may feel the Leafs are giving up too much, but a prospect like Tangradi is worth the gamble.
So it’s Kaberle 4.25M; Ponikarovski 2.1M; and Aulie for Kunitz 3.75; Fedetenko 1.8M; and Tangradi.
    Any thoughts?? Fair, Unfair??

Joel Champagne has scored 5 goals and 4 assists in his last 4 games in the Q. I think this guy is becoming a prospect who has a chance. His F/O percentage is at 58% after 1300+ draws. He also has 13 goals in his last 15 games. At 6?-4? and 214 lbs he has good size, and apparently knows how to use it within the game without taking penalties.
My brother saw him play and thought he stood out alot this year. Good to see. Lets see if he can do it with the Marlies next year

The marlies will be a good test for him.

You might get a second rounder in there. I could see that.

    Kaberle – Premier offensive defenceman
Poni – top-6 forward capable of 20-30 goals
    Aulie- minute-eater defensive prospect

…for two grinders and a prospect that has been a disappointment thus far?

I mean no disrespect, but I would never, ever do that trade. If you were to take out either Poni or Aulie from the trade, I still wouldn’t do it.

    @ B Leaf:

Wouldn’t do it. I think I would rather have Poni than Kunitz, especially at 3.75. If they wanted Kaberle than it would have to be Tangradi, a first and a roster player…we can still save Poni for another deal and there is no need to give up Aulie.

I could see that…roster player (kunitz), prospect and a 1st…i really don’t like Kunitz’ cap hit, especially through 2012, but he is a former Burkian and his numbers are respectable when healthy…if that was the only offer on the table i’d take it, still don’t think they trade him at the deadline though

if pitts will offer Luca Caputi and a 2nd rounder for pony, id take it in a heartbeat, id even take Luca Caputi and a 3rd if that was the offer. The leafs would be getting exactly what they need, a draft pick and a young prospect whos a gritty power forward whos scores alot of goals in front of the net, and is having a pretty good season in the ahl right now, hes also a toronto boy, which would be nice for a change. Burkie, make that deal if its on the table.

Found this on the Pens website, it has the differences between NHL rules and Olympic rules. There are the obvious ones like no-touch icing and no trapezoid but the last one on the list I didn’t know about. It says that in IIHF rules a team can dress 20 skates and 2 goalies whereas the NHL only allows 18 and 2 goalies. So my question is are we going to dress 20 skaters?

I recall in the last 2 olympics, we dressed 13 forwards and 7 defensemen. The extra guys rarely played. Usually only if we were struggling.

    @ goater55:

I’ve always thought Caputi was an underrated asset. He is overshadowed by Tangradi and thus should be more attainable. Caputi + 2nd for Poni is fair for both sides.

I agree with you and zoonpolitikon on this one, I liked his pre season game. He would do well in the Marlies right now, then next year fight for a spot on the roster. Plus, he is a local kid.

Everybody (mostly agrees) that we like our prospects.
So what does Burkie go for?
    1. Poni: Draft Picks, or prospects. A cheaper replacement?
    2. Kabs. The same Question
    3. What UFA,s are available as a replacement for the 2 if Burkie goes draft picks and or prospects?

With these 2 guys gone; thats a lot of points out the door. Betting on the young guys to fill those holes might be too much to ask. We traded antropov for a 2nd rounder. He would look good here now though.
Im just saying that we should be carful what we are giving away.

Saying that; I would like to see Burke go out and stock-pile prospects, and picks. That will give him a lot of leverage to either move up in the draft; or make a big trade for a missing piece. Come Jul. 1st he fills in the void with the best UFA,s available.

I would package Kabs and Stempy together….Put Poni and Mitchell together and add Stefanovich and/or Jimmy Hayes and go after defined 1st/2nd line guys.

Use Kabs and Stemps to get us our 1st liner and Poni, Michell and and a prospect to get us an established winger possibly another solid UFA who we can talk about extending before the deal…ie: Armstrong, Ott (obviously these deals would be +/++ if we are dealing more then Poni)..

@Canadian Kid- are you talking about trading them at the deadline or after the seasons over?
Because no team is gonna trade away 1st/2nd line guys going into the playoff run. The only type of players we will get for kaberle or poni will be prospects, draft picks or roster players to fill up spots just to make the deal work.
