Luca Caputi – Tuesday Prospect Report

Everyone should know Bloge Salming and his extraordinary ability at visual arts.

His skits are over the top funny and when in collaboration with Down Goes Brown, the comedy has resonance beyond video.

They’re not only funny, but legendary. True comedic (and patriotic) genius.

I was proud to add a prospect scouting report to his creative visuals for a Tuesday Prospect Report. Leading up to the draft in June, we’ll be looking at a Leafs prospect in a unique way. the first one features newest Leaf, Luca Caputi originally on the Bloge Salming site.

**************
A reminder, I will be Live blogging the Leafs/Bruins game from the ACC press box tonight. Make sure to come on by and have some fun with all of us at Maple Leafs Hot Stove. Jonas Gustavsson gets the start and according to MLHS’s own Daniel Santos Mikhail Grabovski also returns to the lineup from a wrist injury.

That is WAY too much dough on the back end.

I have never agreed with you more. Trade him!!!!

I think this off season there will be a plug or 2 signed and over the next 2 off season is where BB will target FA’s. I would think by the 11-12 season we will be a decent team

For now, but guys like Backstom and Semin both come up in the next 2 years, they wil have to lose one, or they will lose their next teir guys like Flieschmann or Fehr

A deal that I could actually see happening this summer would be a trade of Florida’s Nathan Horton to Toronto for Mikhail Grabovski and a prospect, like Christopher Didomenico for example.
The Panthers get a legitimate #2 center with some upside in Grabo, a promising youngster (in Dido), and most importantly for them they get to save lots of cash. Grabo is due $5.950 million for the next 2 years, While Horton will be paid $14 million for the next 3 years. That’s an $8 million savings for a club that needs to watch it’s pennies.
The Leafs get the big bodied center that they’ve always coveted to fill the #1 or #2 pivot position.
    Comments?

    @ Charlie:

If Burke doesn’t receive good offers for Kaberle he will be forced to sign him. Otherwise we lose him for nothing after next season.

so sick of the grabbo hate
a 25 year old skilled center 20 goal 50ish point center (he was on pace for 50 or so points this year before the injury) who draws a shit ton of penalties, plays with an edge and is still relatively cheap at under 3 mill.
He fights with team mates at practice? You know who also does? Schenn, Beauchemin and Komisarek.
A bar fight? Does anyone have any actual info on this? I mean what happened? Do we know he started it? Who says he didnt get jumped? He wasn’t even charged, and on the whole “Distracted Burke at the games” you really think Burke was distracted for the whole hour it took him to find out what happen and call Grabbo a dumbass on national news? I’m sure Burke rather enjoyed it.

What kind of went under the radar in Burke’s press conference where he said he would consider resigning Kaberle at the appropriate time, is that he also mentioned for the first time, that he might be willing to trade other defensemen. He said someone would have to pay well for ANY of his defensemen, which to me, subtetly indicated that someone else could go on the market. I have no doubts that unless a can’t miss offer (like Kaberle for Staal/Carter) comes his way by July 1st, Burke will explore trading Beauchemin.

Burke won’t trade Komisarek or Beauchemin just because of the fact he just signed them last summer. I know its stupid, but that’s just the way he is.

    @ Sk8trBoi:

Horton plays the right wing more often than the center position, and there’s a lot of question marks with Horton. His cap hit is nice, and his goal scoring is pretty solid, but he leaves a lot to be desired in the physicality and work ethic department. You can argue that he would straighten up in a real hockey market, but I don’t see the interest developing in Grabovski from Florida, who have Weiss, Reinprecht, Frolik, Matthias and Campbell all capable of playing center. I find it very unlikely also, that Burke would part with Chris DiDomenico. Look for Hayes, Stefanovich and even Stalberg to go before he does.

    @ The Captain:

Not so, I think certain conditions would allow for Burke to trade Beauchemin. He won’t trade Komisarek, because he hasn’t had a chance to show what he’s worth really, and he’s signed longer term, for bigger money. On the other hand, Beauchemin was a guy that wanted to resign in Anaheim, and actually didn’t even consider offers because he thought he was signing there (Bob Murray loves him). When the money didn’t materialize, because you know, the owner was in jail, Burke swooped in and talked to Francois – but as an after-thought.

The Ducks have only 2 defensemen signed next year, and one of them is Steve Eminger (irrelevent). I’m sure that in the absence of Pronger, and Niedermayer (all but sure to retire), Murray would love to have Beauchemin back. This is a trade that doesn’t make Burke look like he’s signing assets just to trade them. It didn’t work out in TO, and Anaheim wants him back – it’s that simple. Of course Burke isn’t goign to trade him to Columbus or some shit team like that, but I think this is a situation that would make a lot more sense for everyone.

Cameron is right. Komisarek isnt going ANYWHERE. But Im glad because I like him here. But Beauchemin has a slight chance of being moved if Kaberle stays. I Would much rather move out Beach and Finger too IMO
    Phaneuf-Schenn
    Kaberle-Komisarek
    Gunnersson-Aulie/MVR/Frogren/UFA
thats a great and about 20 mil. Works great

I would be interested in MVR at around $1.25M plus a bonus structure if they think he is good to go. If he is good to go, I love that defence.

Just a thought…all this talk about kovalchuk…dont we need a play making center more than kovi….we already have the sniper in kessel…he just needs someone to give him the puck…to tie up 8 million (cap Hit)in another winger….i dont know….seems we need a power forward and a #1 center….i think i wud rather pay a marleau type guy 6 to 6.5 than shell out 8 for kovi…..and tthen spend 4 or so for a power forward….

    @ derek:

And Burke will certainly try to talk to Marleau if he hits free agency before he tries to talk to Kovalchuk. I agree though, we don’t need Kovalchuk nearly as much as we need someone to help us maximize the assets we already have. Marleau isn’t really a playmaker though – he’s a shoot first guy. Still, he’d be a fine puck distributer for the time being.

Not a fan of Giggy’s new mask. Pretty cheesy.

On another note I wouldn’t mind keeping Kaberle and moving Beauchemin either- but we just wouldn’t get the same return for Beauch and we need that top 3 forward bad.

Although if we keep Kaberle we can ice a lineup of Kabs, Komi, Kadri, Kulemin and Kessel next year. That’s K-tackular!

For what this team needs, I much rather save $3-4 million a seaons and sign Patty Marleau!!

    Marleau – Kadri – Kessel
    Kulemin – Grabovski – Sjostrom
    Stalberg – Bozak – Hanson
    Caputi – Lundmark – Orr

    @ Cameron:
i just meant a play making center,,,maybe not marleau…if we have 20 million in defense (and dont anybody bitch) just rounding it off, and yes that is without kaberle…say 7 to 7.5 in goal….kessel 5.5…..the rest of the forwards, 20 million (9 guys) thats 52 million with out a #1 center and with out a #1 winger….kovi does not fit…..and yes i know the numbers may be a bit off, but not alot of room to play with…..
