Week 22 Torontosaurus Rex

Week 22 Torontosaurus Rex

    31

The Torontosaurus Rex for Week 22 has been at the scrutiny of many debates. By becoming this week’s honoree, he completes a cycle.

Currently riding a three game goal scoring streak, Phil Kessel the warrants Torontosaurus Rex honours this week.

The 23-year old fired off 18 shots over three games in Week 22, all Leafs wins adding another in the shootout. An interesting note, that Nik Kulemin, Tyler Bozak and now the third member of that line have all been named Torontosaurus Rex.

It’s wasn’t by design it’s just so happened to work out like that – the happiness of most in Leafs Nation. Now, the question is, do one of these players return as a secondary honoree before another player steps up? With three weeks remaining, there is lots of time.

Coincidentally, in the last seven games with the Leafs riding a 6-1 run, Kessel’s only pointless game was the lone Leafs loss. He scored six goals, some of the spectacular variety, and three assists over that entire seven game span for nine points (7-6-3-9). (for more on Kessel, see Garrett’s writeup).

Serious consideration was given to Jonas Gustavsson, with two wins and a sparkling 1.43 goals-against average and 0.947 save-percentage. The wins extended his streak of winning starts to five (2.12 GAA and 0.922 SV%).

With that kind of competition, perhaps in Week 23 we’ll see a new honoree.
