Burke’s Summer Search Story

During this year’s Super Bowl, Google ran an ad telling a search story of a man finding love in Paris. They’ve now created a tool where you can create your own search story and upload it to YouTube.

So I thought I’d have a little fun and create Brian Burke‘s summer search story:

Create your own Brian Burke or Ron Wilson search story and link it in the comments section.

What would we trade for Iginla?

For all those crying about 1st rounders and how we lost the Kessel trade, very interesting blog about top 5 picks and their effects on winning the cup.

    Well worth the read.

    @Jordan

I like B.Eager on the fourth instead of Rosehill. I do think since we are dealing with Chicago, we should target Byfuglien as well for our third line. To have Kulemin, Byfuglien and Hanson on our third line, we be BEASTON BABY. Our fourth line would kill if we could get Malhotra to centre it.
I can’t see Anaheim not asking for Stalberg in the trade for B. Ryan.
To be honest I don’t know much about J. Johnson so you’ll have to fill me in on him…

If there was any truth to the rumours about Iginla, I would do it in a fucking second. Every wining team needs a vetern top 3 player. I can’t think of any team without one. Even Hossa is 31-32 I can’t remember for the Hawks. What better guy but to influence guys like Kadri and Kessel then Iginla. I never thought of that as a possibility before becauser I didn’t think it was possible. He is such a Burke type player too its not funny
The only reason I put these was:
Iginla-Kadri-Kessel (no way kadri’s size is a problem with iggy out there ready for war)
Stalberg-Bozak-Kulemin (Stalberg is like another player when he’s playing with Bozak. All 3 guys are as good a 2nd line as most in the league)

Just thinking if we indeed trade for Iginla maybe if we had cap room could then sign Marleau as well. Our first two lines would be deadly. And our Powerplay would be much better I would think with those two additions as it would open up room for Phaneuf from the point.
    Marleau-Kadri-Iginla
    Kulimen-Bozak-Kessel
    Sjostrom-Hanson-Armstrong
    Rosehill-Paradis-Orr

    Komisarek- Phaneuf
    Gunnarson- Schenn
    Blacker or( cheap UFA)- Oreskovic

    Giguere
    Gustavsson

I think that looks like a playoff team. My first draw up of lines so don’t grill me too hard lol.

    @ Dirk_Diggler:
If a trade for Iggy involved Kabs (4.25M) and Grabs (2.9M) as starting points then that would mean we’re sending 7.15M to calgary while taking back 7M. So we would actually be shedding salary. So if Marleau can be had now then he can be had with or without Iggy on the team. Calgary has very little cap room tho, so maybe some sort of salary dump would be in order? I can’t think of a package that would be fitting. Maybe something like:
    To TOR:
    Iggy
    Staios

    To CAL:
    Kabs
    Grabs
    Paradis
……… or some type of variation on that? Hard to put a price tag on a guy like Iginla in this new NHL. Before the lockout he would have landed a huge return. Now it’s anybodys guess. If we did have to take back salary to land him I wouldn’t mind not getting Marleau. If it was Staios coming back our way I would be alright with that too as he would come off the books next year and can be a great 6th/7th Dman. So we would get something decent this year along with some cap space next year (along with Giggys salary dropping off) to resign Gunner and Schenn. Good trade for us?
On the Flames side they get a good 2nd line C in grabs and his contract is up 1 year sooner than Iggys, so it would give them some space 1 year sooner. They would also have the ability to flip Kabby (he may waive to come back to the east) at next years deadline or sooner. So essentially it could look like, Grabs, Paradis, 2nd-1st rd pick and another good prospect going Calgarys way.
    You guys think its enough?

I really don’t see the Flames trading Iginla. Why would they want to trade their best player and Captain? Especially to Toronto, who really has nothing that they want or need.

As much as it sucks for Calgary, they need to rebuild and retool their team. It’s just getting worse and worse for them. Iginla is a great player and person and I would want him to go to a cup contending team to finish out his career. I don’t see him coming to T.O. I agree with Schenn, we don’t have anything that they would want. They have Bowmeester, why would they want Kaberle? They should trade Iginla to Boston for our 2nd overall pick + + …
If Boston plays their cards right and goes for it I think they could be a cup contending team… IF they decide to keep their picks then they’re just moving backwards

    @Kaz

Yea, but long term, Boston doesn’t have Chara, savard, you don’t know what could happen with the rest of Bruins team. Seguin will most likely be drafted by the Bruins… It has been projected that he spends the first year in the minors as he is still not ready to compete at the NHL level. That means he’ll need the next 2-3 years after that year developing on the Bruins line up. You’ve just waisted 3-4 years.
It would be a different story if the Bruins were a younger team and could afford the time. But they can’t. Half of their team that’s been carrying them thus far is nearing the end of their prime or wants to much $$.
I’m with BB on this one. If you’ve got a window of opportunity for the cup, you go for it.

No way the Flames feel like getting raped again by the Leafs. No way.
I dont really like Iginla anyways and he is getting old. So fuck him.

As an aside, I really hope Pierre macguire is eating shit over the crap talking that he gave to Lee Stempniak. Good for Stempniak for showing he still has goal scoring abilitiy, too bad it wasnt with our beloved leafs.

I dont care how old Iggy is, I would take him in a heart beat. When Burke took over the Ducks, his main guys be brought in to win the cup were Niedermayer at 33, Pronger at 32 and Selanne at 35. So if he brings Iginla at 32-33 I will fully support it

    @ kaz:
the bruins would have to wayyyy overpay to move up to get Hall. The oilers wont give him up easy. Thats the best thing that happened to their team since forever. They will take Hall anyday and slap him with Eberle and MSP. They wont fuck this up and EVERYONE knows Boston wants Hall. They will have to settle for Seguin I bet

Edmonton could live with either as they have good depth in the middle and on the wing, as you said Boston wants Hall and evryone knows that so the oil could milk it a bit, I just think that the reward of moving up to Hall would be better than going for the aging Iggy.

How much do you think they will have to pay? I think, maybe a 2nd rounder and an OK prospect…not much more…

Oilers won’t trade out of #1. Their fans deserve this pick and the management knows this. If all of these scouts, sports analysts are saying Seguin still needs another year in the minors… I’ll take their word. Also, as of right now, Boston is locked from 1-4 going down the middle. There is no room for Seguin. Philly needs a goalie as does Washington (Enter Thomas)
Either way I’m not saying that the Bruins need Iginla. I’m saying Boston has this window of opportunity right now to do some damage and they should take advantage of it. If not then they have some fantastic picks going moving forward… so they should slowly try and get rid of Savard and Chara. You can’t be in the middle like the Leafs were for so many years or like how Calgary is right now. It’s insane.
You can’t also sit there and say that Boston’s players will all step up. Savard is an injury machine. As much as it sucks he will get injured again next year. What if Lucic and the krecji go through another slump of a year. This year showed Boston that they can’t have just a few guys doing all the work. They need the whole team to do it. That’s very hard to do through 82 games, plus the playoffs.

No way Edmonton trades that pick. They are a good 4-5 years from getting rid of the overpaid garbage, stocking young kids, and letting them play. Hall is more of a lock the Seguin is and they cant fuck that up. Even if its thought to be the wrong desicion, just like NYI last year, they will prolly never move that pick. Could work, but Hall is the sure think they need to build around and keeps fans the next few years
