Ovechkin Snows a Kid

During the Pre-Game Ceremonies of Canadiens and Capitals Game 4, Alexander Ovechkin chose the perfect time to skate up to his bench, snow a kid (breaking and sending ice chunks), including his flag, and sit down. Some say he did it on purpose, others feel he was just heading to the bench, you be the judge.

Speaking of immature… Did anyone see Carey Price’s hack on Backstrom from the bench with his stick after the 6th goal was scored yesterday? What a douchebag.

If Ovie didn’t score goals at a pace comparable to the MLHS post count then no one would like him. The guy is a goof who can score. Thats all.

On this other board I post on I said the Habs will get swept with no issues. After that first game
I got shit on repeatedly for making that claim. Let’s just say after that first game they haven’t said shit all. Habs fans are fucking stupid. They’ll probably blame all their failures over the next ten years on this whole ovi icing the kid scenario.

Two nights ago I was drinking with an OHL prospect who will most likely make the show. I can’t say names or team names, but he has an older brother that’s already playing in the NHL.

Anyways, nice kid but near the end of the night, he’s hammered drunk and stammering to me about how popular cocaine is amongst NHL players. He tells me with conviction that Federov left the NHL for the KHL because he was doing steroids, and suggests that Ovi has done them as well.

I scoffed at the kid, and asked him how he could possibly have such intel. He riffs a few names which I recognize, kids he plays/played puck with that have fathers that are coaches in the NHL, assistant GM’s, etc. He insists that he knows two people so well connected in the East that he didn’t doubt the rumors the first time he heard them. I thought about it, and indeed the names checked out.

He stammers that Pronger went to Philadelphia because he has a coke problem, that Chara loves blow as well. He insisted most of the most skilled guys in the league didn’t have problems. Finally he mentioned something about our golden child, Nazem Kadri that put me over the edge and I told him I’d had enough.

I know it’s probably just rumours, and probably not true. But the next day I thought about how Philadelphia had that big college party scandal the year before Pronger came, and today I read about a steroid dealer in Washington and I’m starting to think there might be some more truth to what he said then I had initially thought.

Take from this what you will, I don’t care if you believe me, I’m not sure I believe the kid. But with his name, and who he’s connected with, it’s getting harder not to believe some of the things he said.

So when I saw this, the first thing I thought was “roid rage”.

Roid rage made Ovechkin snow a kid? LOL.
    .
The coke stuff is no surprise. I’m sure most of the league is on blow. Players under 25 or under 30 years old with no responsibility other than hockey and a ton of expendable cash… What do you expect?

    @ Sasha:
Yeah it’s bound to happen. Supposedly Dion is a cokehead too, but that is just a rumour from Calgary fans that needed to console themselves after realizing what they gave up. I personally don;t give a shit unless it effects their play on the ice.

    @ Sasha:

What was it that this kid said about Kadri? It can no doubt be a problem in the league. Coke that is. But fuck Anderson, Messier, and Fuhr snorted more of that shit than anyone and they dominated the league. Maybe it give’s you a edge. lol. It is a sad and pathetic addiction that tells you these athletes are being paid way too much to play this game.

P.S. Snowing a kid is hardly roid rage. He snowed the Jersey and what the Canadiens stand for. Which by what I can tell is nothing anymore. Nonetheless terrible classless move by Ovi. Kind of like Canadiens fans booing a national anthem.

    @ DionforCaptain:

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking too…as long as it doesn’t affect their play on ice. I thought about Theo Fleury who drank wine with bums and hookers in NYC the nights before big games and still dominated. I just felt frustrated knowing that some of these guys are good but could be a lot better.

As for the Ovi thing, I’m not saying it was legitimate hypomania (roid rage), clearly. I’m just thinking he’s got a bit too much aggression. Who snows in a kid with cancer?

I guess it shouldn’t surprise me that these athletes do steroids and have coke addictions. Upon seeing my doubt, the prospect telling me all of this said to me “look how drunk I am, if I were in the NHL there would be the next kid in line telling you I was an alcoholic…and I probably am.”

As for Kadri, I live in London and am friends with some guys who play for the Knights. So I figured I’d just ask them if there is any truth to what this kid told me before I go spreading it around.

Ya I’ve heard of a bunch of players doing blow and a few of my friends have seen some do it in some of the clubs especially in Montreal. It’s honestly not a big deal though if they are just out having some fun, as long as it doesn’t affect their play and their lives, it’s their business. What do you expect, they are young adults that love to party as it is pretty rampant in the chl culture.

Kadri can do whatever he wants as long as he’s in control and doesn’t let it affect his life. I lived in London too and have heard some things about him from people that have hung out with him but its no biggie. He’ll be good and next season will most likely be under the watch of the leaf players and management.

I’m from near London. I was at a party there recently with Kadri’s father’s cousin’s best friend’s war-buddy and he claimed that Kadri is really a Muslim extremist funded by Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Apparently he’s only trying to get to the bigs so he can plant a bomb in MSG on his first visit there, thereby helping to rid the world of infidel filth and ensure his own martyrdom.

Yeah, I’m not so worried about Kadri. I wasn’t criticizing players for snorting coke either. It just surprised me that guys that might have addictions would still be playing a high level and that the NHL wouldn’t step in with a mandatory substance abuse program.
