Nonis to Stay

According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, Leafs vice president of hockey operations Dave Nonis is on the verge of agreeing to terms with the organization on a contract extension that will see him stay in Toronto at least through the 2011-2012 season.

For the last several weeks, it’s been rumored that Nonis was among the top candidates on the shortlist for Tampa Bay’s vacant GM position, but he has now apparently pulled out of the running. Looks like Brian Burke gets to keep his right hand man for the foreseeable future. Nice signing.

Did you just compare Dale Mitchell to Bobby Ryan???

    Yes, and no sarcasm intended.

what i believe everyone is missing is this….prospects are just that prospects….we are starting to accumulate quite a few….if you go by players in the minors and players with 2 years or less, than we have all the forwards we need….but we cant play them all….prospects are what they are….players who show some signs of being a contributer to an nhl team….if another team shows interest…then we listen….so no one should be suprised if burkie bunches a few of them together to bring in someone nhl proven…..you need prospects and you need vets….right now we have no one in the vet category….so everyone get ready….burkie will bring in some vets to teach the young ones…it may cost us some prospects….that is what they are there for…to develope and use as pieces to acquire what we need….

    @ Byron:
your fuckin right! I dont like stalberg as much as most, but Bozak is the exact reason why.
Both players are 23, came from collage, but Bozak was limited to an INSANE 19 games last year an still came and played great even with the H1N1 problems. Someone who misses that much time obviously doesnt come fully back %100 the next year, and I cant WAIT till we see him after hes stronger and in his 2nd year. 60-70 PTS is my guess if hes healthy the wole year

agreed….but this is the mecca of hockey…we want turn around….i know we have been at the bottom for awhile…but since burke came, the future looks bright….the kings had the time, so did the hawks…..since burkies moves, the excitement is growing….he is not gonna wait 2 or 3 years to let them develope….if teams are interested he will go for the home run….this is just an example so dont everyone bitch….if he can get bobby ryan for say kulemin, aulie, and rynnas…he will do it….just because we have the parts to cover their losses….like i said just an example so dont say kings wouldnt do it or leafs wudnt…just making a point…..and as you said he will not move them for ok players…..

How was Bozak limited to only 19 games, when he clearly played almost half the sesaon with 37 games, which is only 3 less than Stalberg played.
Also, Viktor didn’t get much, if any time playing with Kessel on the top line, which does make a difference.
I’m not saying Stalberg is a better player than Bozak, however he is going to be a pretty decent NHLer when he is done developing.

That is the exact point range I was thinking too. And I think he can do it even if he doesn’t play with Kessel. When he moved down to play with Stalberg and Hanson, his production didn’t drop, theirs just rose. He makes other players better, and at times near the end of last season, he started to handle the puck a lot more. There were times when he controlled the play for a fairly long length of time. Once he reaches his peak, and has the confidence to do that more often, he is going to be great. Making teammates better + Controlling the play = STAR.

Bozak is better for sure – without question. Bozak has excellent vision, dangles well, hits, backchecks, and is just oozing with hockey sense. He is the prototypical 2nd line centre that all teams need to win.

with what we have in kessel, bozak, kadri, kulemin, orr, sjostrom, stalberg, caputi, the defense, goalies next year, i feel we are not that far off from making the playoffs….hey look at the fricken habs….we could do some damage….so a few 3rd and 4th line players….plus the 2 top 6 we need we could get there…..so to give up kabarle, a roster player and maybe a couple other prospects to acquire what we need is doable….it will not set us back any as far as the future….burke and nonis have stocked the cupboard to set us up for the future and will continue to do more….things are looking good…..
