Scouting Profile

Strengths:

Blacker is exceptional at bringing the puck out of his own end, whether skating it up the ice or making a crisp first pass. Jesse’s poise in the defensive zone while handing the puck is impressive given his lack of experience at the professional level. He also carries himself as one of the team’s “Big Bodies” and will not shy away from laying a hit in order to make a play or set the tone of a game.

Weaknesses:

While under pressure in his defensive zone, Blacker could often be seen out of position and looking a little lost. At the times that his size and aggressive nature could be used moving bodies from in front of the net, he was caught floating behind the goal line.  Although this may be chalked up to his inexperience, Jesse will have to improve his positional game before he can help his team on the penalty kill or a sees substantial increase in his 5-on-5 minutes.

IMO:

Blacker has all the keys to being a successful top-4 blue-liner, but expect him to play a couple seasons in the AHL before seeing his first ice time in the big leagues. The newly turned nineteen year old must also add 20-25lbs to fill out his somewhat lanky frame in order to compete regularly against the leagues best. Though the Leafs depth at defence has Blacker currently in the bottom third, as long as the Maple Leafs have Burke as general manager, Jesse will be in the system. Truculence and testosterone tops this youngster’s resume, with a side of pugnacity and a light sprinkling of belligerence. I would compare the future of Blacker to that of Mike Van Ryn, just without the injuries (hopefully).

Quote It:

First game in the AHL:

“It was a great feeling. It’s been a dream to play for the Leafs so this is another step closer. That first game I played I went out and tried to play my game, tried to keep things simple. It was a great feeling, I thought I played well.”

Thoughts on AHL vs. OHL:

“It’s not like junior where you can skate down the ice every time or jump in all the time, play a little more high risk. Here you have to play your position properly, take a little less chance, but be more sound defensively.”

Coach’s advice:

“The coaches here really told me to focus on [making the first pass], going North South, moving the puck up and down the ice, and keeping in position.”

Canada sucking has more to do with who put the team together…the dumbest Moose on the planet, Mark Messier. But anyways, Blacker is a great young player, who with at least one full year in the AHL will be ready to step in as a puck moving DMan.

you know what pisses me off about Quebec…the Canadian Federal Gov’t pays out a total of $14 billion dollars to the Provinces in total last year and out of that Quebec got $8.5 billion of that, so more than all the other Provinces got combined, all this just so Quebecers can among other things retire at age 62 with “full” Quebec Pension Plan (Quebec’s equivalent of the CPP (Canada Pension Plan) where the rest of us in Canada have to wait till age 65 to get full CPP. And all those idiots keep crying about separating, fuck I say let them go. I live in Ottawa and most of them think that if they sperate they will still get to keep their Federal Gov’t jobs…come to think of it we as a country are so politically correct that we probably would let them keep working for the government of Canada. What other country in the world would allow a political party dedicated to breaking up the country to be part of the government, collect extra pensions and receive federal tax dollars to litterally work every day to seperate from Canada. boy I hate them all.

I have to say, Subban looks like a gamer. In the spirit of the article, Blacker appears to have a very comparable upside. I’m excited to watch Jesse’s progress.

Fucking smurfettes are soo fucking lucky! No SKILL AT ALL!
Its all luck I swear. They are horrible and I know. When Montreal gets a penalty the commentators are like “let`s see if Montreeal can kill this off, It`d be huge“
Then when philly gets a penalty, its all hoping for the habs to score.
SO MUCH FUCKING FAVOURTISIM! GOD FUCKING DAMNIT!
CBC is Canada broadcasted, not just Montreal broadcasted. Its like if Joe Bowen called CBC games. veryone would get pissed cause he favours the Leafs. And thats why he does Sportnet and Leafs TV, where people watching are cheering for them!

ARGGG IM SO PISSED AT THE HABS
okay i feel better now :)
