Halak Dealt to Blues

TSN has reported that goaltender Jaroslav Halak has been acquired by the St. Louis Blues. Thus far there is no report on the return, but Halak has recently aided the Canadiens in reaching the Stanley Cup Conference Finals. Dealing him when his value is high could be either beneficial or disastrous should Carey Price not be able to handle the load. The Habs received Lars Eller and Ian Schultz in return.

Lars Eller:

Eller was drafted 13th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He is a 6’1″ 200lbs Danish center who spent the year between the Blues and their affiliate, Peoria Riverman. In his 70 games with Peoria, Eller posted 18 goals and 57 points with 84 penalty minutes. In his 7 appearances with the Blues, he scored two goals.

Ian Schultz:

A 6’3″ 210lbs right winger for the Calgary Hitman, Schultz is known for his aggressive play, ability to score and his fighting. In his final year with the Hitman, Schultz posted 24 goals, 55 points and 150 penalty minutes. He was selected 87th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Blues.

Do you think the Habs got enough in return for a goaltender who helped them reach the Eastern Conference Finals?

I suppose that old prick Watters was sucking Burke’s balls in that interview? I wish he would have grown a pair and chirp the Leafs like he always does so Burke could tear him a new one.
That old coot needs to be on a scooter up town bitchin about the weather to the rest of his old fart buddies.

How I see it is we have a 3rd so by him saying we’ll be picking higher is just positioning to try to get a 1st. He may not have even gotten an offer with a 2nd. His best offer right now could be a prospect or young roster player plus a 3rd but by saying we’ll be picking higher makes those teams THINK he has been offered a 2nd so now they are pondering offering a 1st.
    Burke for Prime Minister!!!

I’m gonna ask our webmaster about this because there is likely a disagreement between what that site considers a pageview and what I consider one. I’ll let you know.

That was great. He’s so determined and passionate about what he’s doing. I haven’t felt this good about a Leafs GM in my life.

A comment from a Habs fan posted in response to an article in the Montreal Gazette… sums it up nicely. Man I’d be pissed if I was a Habs fan right now.
    .
“Beside the fact that Price has never played as well as Halak, especially when it really mattered, and the team played so well in front of him and he responded in kind, the message that the GM is sending is not one that is going to resonate with the team. What got the Habs to where they ended up this season was coming together as a team, playing great team defence with Halak between the pipes. Rather than building on that, filling the gaps with a Price trade and kicking some of he dead wood out, the GM breaks the back of the team. It is not so much that Halak is so much better than Price it is more the message that is being sent–play hard, play for the team and get traded. Dumb move all the way around.”

I can’t help but think Gauthier could have gotten more for Jaro if he’d held out. When I saw on the news screen in the subway that he’d gone to St. Louis, there was no word on the return, but I figured Perron would be in there somewhere.

They trade their 25 year old #1 goalie and don’t even get a French guy in return?

    @ GO Blue AND White:
Fuck that, if Kadri hits his potential he alone will be better than Ryan. Plus, we shouldnt be trading away our youth, especially when its loaded with these tools, i dont care how much we need a PF, Kadri’s ability and future promise exceeds that quality by a large margin. Ryan for Kaberle+Stalberg, or nothing. Kadri, Schenn, Gustavsson, Bozak, Kessel Phaneuf, and i know im gonna get grilled for this but Kulemin aswell, that should be who we aspire to keep almost no matter what.

That’d be an alright Top Six if you actually listed 6 players.
