Scratch Hamhuis Off The List

Looks like the Halak trade may have opened up the floodgates.  At least, it has for the Nashville Predators, who announced two separate trades today.

The Predators dealt the rights to defender Dan Hamhuis and a conditional draft pick in 2011 to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for former Predator Ryan Parent.  Hamhuis, strongly rumoured to be a target of the Flyers all the way back to the trade deadline, was also rumoured to be on the Leafs‘ wish list.  The value of the conditional pick be dependent upon whether the Flyers are able sign Hamhuis.

In a separate deal, also announced today, the Predators traded veteran centre Jason Arnott to the New Jersey Devils for 22-year old winger Matt Halischuk and a second round pick.  That’s a larger return than most would expect for the 35-year old Arnott (who previously played for the Devils from 1997-2001), and is perhaps a signal that the Devils are serious about gearing up for another Cup run in 2010/11.

Depends. Crosby might not want to resign so ya I see less value in him making the 4th a 1st. Or at least a 2nd. But we have Bozak and Kadri so we might just use him to flip for another winger

Jordan that’s rediculous. D’Amigo for Crosby.
Kaberle to stock our draft board: to anyone who will take him, salary dump for a 5th in 2011 and 6th on 2012 let’s pray.

After reading that article, we aren’t getting him and honestly, I don’t want him. I know he’s loyal and there is something to be said for that, but the guy obviously doesn’t like T.O. and it sounds like he’s indifferent on Burke. If we got him, I could see us losing him for nothing down the line. Move on.

I hope this is the end of the “Bobby Ryan doesn’t want to be in Anaheim” crap. Read the article linked above (http://ducks.ocregister.com/2010/06/19/ryans-not-frustrated-but-kind-of-worried/38389/), and pay attention to his quotes. Also read the one linked to within it. The guy wants to stay in Anaheim, period.
    .
The issue with Ryan and the Ducks isn’t money, or willingness to play there — it’s term. He wants a four-year deal, where at the end of it he will be 27, and (because it would be signed under the existing CBA – this is key) he would therefore become a UFA. If he took the three-year deal Anaheim wants to give him, he would be 26 at its end and therefore a RFA. With the CBA set to expire before the deal is up, it is possible the rules surrounding UFA status could get altered, possibly to a later age … which is why it’s important to note any deal signed under the existing CBA would have to be honored under the current rules.
    .
THAT is what the whole issue is about — NOTHING ELSE.
    .
It’s interesting that he said if he gets one more article from Toronto emailed to him he’s going to lose it. I don’t blame him. The amount of unresearched, speculative bullshit that has come out of TO in regard to Ryan is amazing. The information about the contract he’s seeking, and his desire to remain in Anaheim for less money than Getzlaf and Perry, is all out there and has been for quite some time (the article about the 4-year deal was published back in April, for example). This stuff isn’t all that difficult …

Garrett maybe you should also pass this info over to your co workers as well as I recall there was a piece written on your very site here what it would take to get Ryan. Are you guys also part of the bs that the rest of the media has been speculating on? What makes MLHS so different?

    -

The truth is we have nothing to talk about. This shit is what we fans do to keep ourselves entertained no matter how outlandish it may seem. The media also seems to do the same thing looking for something to grasp onto even if the rumor is nothing more than a pointless fantasy.

A little off-topic but, who the hell would want to take on Thomas’ $5M salary for three more years when he will be almost 40 at the expiration. If they can get rid of that contract, I’ll be shocked. I hoped they’ve fucked themselves with that one:

Good, now people can stop saying hes worth nothing and wants out. Hes gonna be a duck unless we blow them away with a trade, but it wouldnt make sense to us to do that

    @ Jes:
Co-workers … has a nice ring to it, unfortunately we don’t get paid to do this, so I’m not sure the word applies. Prefer “teammates”. :)
    .
The article you’re referring to is one of Derek’s. If you read it again, you’ll notice he openly references and acknowledges the speculation for what it is (quote: “if you believe the hearsay”).
    .
My comment was in reference to Ryan’s comment about being e-mailed articles out of Toronto that say he doesn’t want to be in Anaheim. There is nothing wrong with speculation as long as it is presented as such … but when the topic of interest is presented in a factual manner, it’s generally a good idea for the writer to present one or two actual facts to back the argument up.
    .
Make sense? I’d like to think something like fact-checking would be common practice within the media, but … I suppose I’m just too much of an optimist.

I think that there is a market for Tim Thomas. He regressed last year, but to be fair to him, he still had very good numbers and has obviously shown himself capable of being a starter. I guess it all depends on whether he will waive or not.
