Welcome to Maple Leafs Hot Stove’s official coverage of the 2010 NHL Entry draft.  Everyone here at the site will be working hard, monitoring stories and networking with people around us through the day to bring you the absolute latest as we get set for the NHL entry draft live from L.A. tonight.

Eric Duhatschek reports in the Globe and Mail last night that there are six firm offers for Kaberle, with more expected to come in as the day progresses.

The article also goes on to state that though everyone is focused on the Kaberle sweepstakes, Burke did admit to having a few others things perhaps in the works, though he obviously declined to talk names.

Duhatschek also reports that Blackhawks winger Andrew Ladd may be a potential target for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Stay tuned to Maple Leafs Hot Stove all day for the absolute latest on the NHL Entry Draft

Flappy – nothing much has been going on man. No new rumors. No trades gone down yet. I guess in all fairness it is just 9:30 am over on the left coast. Things will heat up in the next 2 or 3 hours I’m guessing.

Would any of you guys sign Svatos as a UFA? could be a really good second line guy I think specailly if Grabo is anchoring it. Could really use a change of scenery I think to spark his offensive side probably get him cheap now.

Not disputing that. Was talking diving. Argentina has always been the worst for that. France has a lot of skill as well, but they are meeting with their PM today to discuss their ineptitude…
    @ Bordon:
and at least 7 more in the KHL. What did you do to Jordan!?! You really are losing it dude. Anyone live close by who can go slap this kid? Oh wait, hell no…tell me you didn’t go to high park last night.

I would consider Svatos at the right price. It would be a 1 yr deal at low dollars I think. Ideally some of our own talent will be developed over the next 2 seasons enough so that we can start filling in holes from within and not needing guys like that. At low $ and low term I’d consider it.

On second thought (and after checking his stats on tsn.ca) I wouldn’t sign Svatos. The minutes he may take up would be better spent on either a higher quality player or letting one of the young guys play. Stalberg would be more productive over 80 games than Svatos.

According to TSN the ‘Yotes are shopping the 22nd over all pick, think a deal with Kaberle could work?

    To Yotes
    Kaberle, Mitchell

    To the Leafers
    22nd overall, Turris

Add in prospects on either side if you think thats what it will take, but I’d consider it.

Guys, I know a lot of the writers are on Twitter (myself included DerekHarmsworth) I will try and find the names of all the writers on Twitter and post it here in a later comment so you can follow for our latest thoughts and news.
I did bring up the possibility of an iPhone app, or at least a plugin to make our site available and easier to read for mobile users, and it is something we are working on. Alec is a busy man at the moment, so we preach patience.
Any other things you guys would like to see on the site?

Hmmm, an idiot detector on the register a new account page? (oh, never mind…)

How about a ‘Playa Hater’ inspired filter? One where you can check an ignore box next to their name, and you don’t have to manually skip over their posts, they just won’t appear for you? No? Okay, how about something that could actually happen…

Change the format of the comment area so that it’s one big pool. New blogs come in, and you can read them and comment still, but all the comments go to the same spot. Now, when you post something related to a particular blog, you can tag it so it shows up in the list of comments for that blog. You can filter comments for ones that pertain to the blog you are reading, or any other past blog, or you can just go along with the talk that’s always ongoing on this site.

After about the first ten comments, the conversation always turns to a general discussion of whatever the hot topic of the moment is. Having to break the conversation up and jump to the next blog to continue kind of breaks the flow of it. Conversely, having to sift through 30 pages to read the 15 related comments can be a drag as well.

So having all the comments flowing into the same pool, and a filtering mechanism to restrict the view to comments for a blog, or comments from a person, or even exclude comments from a person as the case might be, could be a nice way to satisfy both the general ongoing chatter and blog specific comments.

Then the conversation can just continue to run along. People who just want to see the blog related comments can, and it almost takes on a live chat sort of feel, but with the ability to restrict your view of all the comments in various useful ways.

    Just a thought…

Oh, and while I love the look of the site, can someone please donate a seamless background? The tiled look really takes away from the clean, professional appearance of the site. IMO

the whole Savard thing has me scratching my head, why would Boston just sign him ti 4 mil a yr and than turn around and trade him makes no sense
Simple at the time they had no idea they would be in line for Hall or Seguin. And now they are certain they are getting Seguin so one of the centers has to go.

Do you think that blow to the head Savard took has some significant lingering effects that helped to move him to the front of the queue for being traded? I like the sound of him, but somehow feel he might be quite fragile going forward.

Where did these rumours of Brown start? he may be the most unavailable player on the Kings. The player has a great contract, is the Captain of the KIngs, do you really think they would trade their captain right in their own home at the draft? get real people, this is much of a fantasy as Ryan is and probably more.
