Congratulations to Down Goes Brown

Sean Mcindoe, better known as the unmistakeably hilarious voice of Down Goes Brown, has joined forces with the evil Empire that is the Toronto mainstream media. He will be appearing in the National Post as a regular contributor starting here with his first article on Tuesday evening. On behalf of the MLHS staff and the rest of the Maple Leafs Barilkosphere, we’d like to congratulate Sean on making it to the big show!

Even if Gunnarsson has an awesome year, and ends up a plus player, with 40 points, we can still only expect to have to pay him about 3.5 million. Look at Ian White. He’s not going to be that expensive. I expect if Gunnarsson and Schenn continue their current pace, or improve slightly, the duo will cost us about 6.5 million in 2012:
    -
    Phaneuf ‘C’ (6.5) – L.Schenn (3.4)
    Komisarek (4.5) – Lebda (1.45)
    Gunnarsson (3.1) – ___________
    -
Assume that Burke deals Beauchemin, and we are very tight, affordable defensive group. And even if he keeps him, they’ll still be good bang for your buck.

I think he trades him to let one of the Big 4 to step in a claim a spot that they have had to wait for since we have about 300 defence man…

All im saying is that we don’t need more defensemen. We already have Holzer, Mikus, Aulie, and other’s all waiting in the wings. I just don’t think that we need more defensemen

We also have D.Mitchell, J.Mitchell, Caputi, Hanson, Irwin, D’Amigo, Ross, Brent and others coming up, so..

    @ gunner_36:

I figure that Burke will be trading 2 defenceman but neither one will be Lebda.

Now this is a hypothetical question to everyone. Some People want to trade Kaberle. Some people want to trade Schenn. What do you think the return would be on a deal if we packaged them together. (Not Saying we will and i hope we don’t because I think Schenn is going to be a star) but what does everybody think the return would be on on a package of Schenn and Kaberle

If an opportunity comes up to get Harmonic (or any good prospect regardless of the role they play) for reasonable or low cost, Burke will do it. It’s that whole free wallet thing. It doesn’t hurt to have too many D, especially since there’s so many teams where D is in short supply. Get em cheap, develop em, keep the best, trade the rest for profit.

Yes but just because everyone wants it to happen doesn’t mean it is. If that were the case then Kabs would have been traded 10 times over by now
Same can be said withyou and flappypaddle wanting physical wingers with upside.

Here’s how I look at it, with the two deals. You can have an Offensive d-man that if he fails at that has nothing to fall back on because he isnt well rounded enough, or a 4th liner with potential that even if he cant be a better player can still be someone to put up even 20 points a year and bash faces. Dont get me wrong Gunner I would love to have another offensive d-man in the fold but looking at our current needs and it looks more like we need another bottom 6 winger aswell as a center and a top 6 winger aswell.

You guys are agreeing but don’t know it. One is thinking short term and the other long term.

Personally I think J.Mitchell and Brent are pretty much career AHLers. Mitchell’s not a good enough shut-down center and not big enough to fill in that 4th energy face bash center. Brent is injured to often to be a differance maker. Hanson the jury’s not looking good so far either. the rest of the names their do have some good promise though but are still a season or two off.

You’ve got to find a team that wants two D-men, and one who might only be for 1 year.
    .
Tampa would want Schenn, but would Kabby stick around? And who would they give up? I would think Malone, Ashton + pick.
    .
San Jose wants Kabby, they’d like Schenn for future. So Clowe, Setoguchi and pick? Or maybe Clowe, Couture, 1st and 2nd?
    .
LA would like Kaberle, also Schenn. But do they part with Brauden then. I have no clue on that one.

Bottom 6, assuming we pick up a top 6 player for Kabs

    Sjostrom-Grabo-Armstrong
    Brown-Hanson-Orr
    Caputi

We’ve got wingers, just not centres.
    .
Hamonic can play forward and bash peoples faces in. And he can drop the mitts as well (not saying Martin can’t, I know he’s a good fighter)
    .
And who’s to say Mikus, Aulie, and Holzer will be any good? No one has seen them play an NHL game. They could suck it up like you think Mitchell will (I don’t).

  • gunner_36

    @ flappypaddle

It is very common for 3rd/4th line energy type guys to be hurt. When you’re bashing guys into the boards, exchanging punches and blocking shots you’re going to end up with a few injuries. It happens.

  • daverleafsfan

Aulie is going to be a beast in the nhl after a year of seasoning in the Ahl. The kid may never be more then a 15-20 point d man… but at 6-6 and still filling out his body… he has good speed, is an above average fighter and has out of this leauge leadership skills.

with army, aulie, schenn, komisarek and phaneuf we probabaly have some of the best leadership around.. wow.

off topic but what a jerk Chris Bosch is saying things were all different in Toronto, like it was some fucking third world country, what a big egotistical idiot, I hope he flames out in Miami.

  • gunner_36

    @flappypaddle

I realize the potential of Keith Aulie. Alexandre Daigle went first overall. Jiri Tlusty went 13th overall. Justin Pogge was the goalie of the future. Tim Brent went 37th overall.
    .
    Just saying.

I don’t know a whole lot about basketball, and really don’t care to; but I hope Miami becomes lime Washington. All of the over-hyped stars, good in regular season, but can’t win it all, ha ha ha.
    .
I think there is a comparision to be made:
    Lebron James = Alex Ovechkin
    Kobe Bryant = Sidney Crosby
    .
    Anyone agree??

I guess so, I definitely am not a basketball fan but hate when some of these american athletes bad mouth playing in Canada, they should just take their families back to the US and all the crime that is there particularly in a place like Miami, real wholesome place to raise kids…oh ya he is the kid in all this so all good I guess.
He’s such a self absorbed jerk from everything I have seen from him. Maybe I’m wrong, just my thought and observations.
