Leafs, Sharks in talks for Kaberle?

The Toronto Sun reports whispers around the league of the San Jose Sharks offering defensive prospect Derek Joslin along with a first round pick in exchange for Tomas Kaberle. This would be consistent with Burke‘s Friday morning comments to the FAN 590 that offers for his premium puck moving defenseman have been primarily “futures oriented”, generally involving a quality young player and a high draft pick. Joslin is a 23 year old puck moving defenseman who has spent parts of the past three seasons posting increasingly impressive point totals in the American Hockey League and was named an AHL All-Star last season. He possesses an absolute bomb of a point shot, taking home the award for the hardest shot in the AHL Skills Competition.

Just under 26 hours left in the Kaberle countdown…

Stalberg got alllllll his goals from Bozak and played top 6. Versteeg played 3rd line

I’ve gotta call you on this Stalberg hate. Stalberg played less than half the season and I recall him spending the majority of it playing in the bottom six. He spent a good chunk of his 40 games in the Wilson “doghouse” playing on the 4th line, along with Orr and Wallin/Primeau.
He started the year in a Top Six role, but got KO’d by Volchenkov early in the season. After that point, he only showed flashes of what he displayed in the Pre-Season.
    .
I’m not saying I hate the Versteeg deal, because I think it’s great bringing in a young player with the potential that Kris has. However, don’t be surprised if Stalberg ends up being the best player in the deal down the road.

We must indeed remember that ditching Kabs can create valuable cap room and bring us assets at the same time. Do we want to keep Kabs cap and give him a raise, thus handcuffing us for trade moves and UFAs? When we had little use for him last year? Not a chance!

Ok, we will see about Stalberg. Hes just another Tlusty, Stralman, wellwood, Steen and Coliacovo who left and people complained and now are worth nothing great

I still wouldnt mind Steener as our 3rd line center I think he was one guy I will miss for along time to come, he just is worth more then the waste of space stempniak ever was or will be hence why he was re-upped and stempnuts is waiting still thinking he is worth 5 mill a year because he got shit lucky for a couple weeks. And anyone who argues that needs to look at his shooting %

People are down playing Stalbergs abilities because they want to feel like we raped Chicago in that trade. Stalberg is a big body with a ton of speed and offensive awareness, he should easily score 20 goals playing with Hossa.

As for Stalberg, IMO he will blossom with Chicago just as he would have with us. I look for him to have a decent sophomore year then to really blossom.

I hope Stalberg turns out to be a dud and does not blossom in other skill areas, but that’s the risk you take when you trade a young kid who has barely played in the NHL. And he played on a truly brutal team, literally dragged kicking and screaming to its death by Toskala.

But BB had the Versteeg offer suddenly materialize and the offer wasn’t going to wait for 2 seasons – so he acted. The only guy I wish we held onto was Dido.

How many people believe maybe Burke has an agreement with Kaberle that he will waive at the deadline? Maybe like it was said on the radio because he knows hes not coming back?
If Burke wants a future deal, thats when the best ones will come

I agree. If he can stay healthy (concussion-wise), I look for him to have a break-out season. I realize he will be playing with a team with a higher talent level, but he is going to be good. I wish him all the best. I for one will miss him.

I do love that we got Versteeg though…so I am not complaining about the trade. You have to give to get. If Burkie hits a homerun today you can bet that there will be a name or 2 we will be upset with losing.

    C’mon October….lets get it on.

I doubt it. Not with all the complaining that we hear from his agent. They don’t want anything to do with moving or being traded.

agree we have had terrible development skills but i completly disagree with ron wilson being horrible with developping kids. I mean look what he did with vlasic in san jose. he was a second round pick remember ?

If Burke has this offer (As posted in the blog and the Sun) – he should jump at it. It would go a long way to replenish the 1st rounders lost (even though this will likely be a late 1st rounder – still a 1st rounder) and will give the organization a top flight puck moving and offensive D man prospect that they are sorely lacking..

    just my humble opinion…

He doesnt have THAT much either (still more then stalberg) but at least he can grind with the best. Thats why hes so good and can play top 6. Hes like a 50-55 pts guy would is strong with the puck. Stalberg just skates fast and shoots hard. Nothing more. Watch replay of him last year, he was the new Blake

you are being really hard on Stalberg.. the kid was a rookie – yes, an older rookie, but, a rookie. He has elite level speed and an NHL caliber shot. These are the 2 most important skillsets to have for a forward – the rest can be taught. You cannot teach speed or a shot like this – you can teach the other parts of the game. You should listen to Ken Holland talk about these sorts of things. This is the EXACT type of player Detroit seeks and drafts, because as Mr Holland says, we can turn these guys into stars by teaching them the rest of the required skillsets in our system. We cannot teach speed and shot and goal scoring ability – so, these are they guys they draft – and then develop them – and its why Detroit does so well in the late rounds

This whole Kaberle thing today is turning into a figment of this websites imagination. We are the ones on these pages that have likely provided half of the stupid twitter rumours out there. Just us dufuses yacking about this or that. This trade proposal with San Jose, if it is the lead deal that the writers on this website can dig up…really shows the difference between our percieved reality and the one that exists out there. Keep Kaberle and dump another defender for a pick and lets get on with the season.
