Burke’s Statement:

As you all know, or may not know, Tomas Kaberle will remain a Toronto Maple Leafs. Whether he is still a Maple Leaf beyond this season is another question all together, and likely a long and awfully boring road. Regardless, here is Brian Burke‘s statement:

The hockey club confirms this evening that Tomas Kaberle remains a Leaf. While a number of Clubs made offers to trade for Tomas, none of them reflected Tomas’s value to our team. I understand a period like this is stressful to the player, and we are pleased that there is a resolution, and we can all continue to prepare for the coming season.

Also, I was just perusing through some of the weekends banter/ramblings/blogs and I would like to retract my reference to Gunner’s sister…

Gunner, whatever your home situation is, imaginary girlfriend or not… good for you for admitting your mistakes and for sticking with the site even when shit got wicked personal… Awesome new avatar by the way…

Still want Luke the Nuke to tell me who his uncle is though… or at the very least why what his uncle says should matter…

    @ Shotgun Charlie:

    “Aren’t you tired of mediocrity?”

Apparently not. Leaf Nation has embraced it for the better part of the last 43 years. And the powers that be see no need to change that, as long as the $$$ keeps rollin’ in. You get what you pay for.

Svatos is interesting, but would he be any better than D’Amigo or Caputi?
    -
    How about this:
    -
    To WSH: Beauchemin
To STL: Fleischmann, Rosehill, 3rd in 2011 (WSH)
    To TOR: Berglund
    -
Rosehill replaces the loss of DJ King for the Blues, and they also swap out Berglund for Fleischmann, who is a little further along. They soured on Berglund a bit this year. They also get a pick back. Washington gets their playoff defensemen. Toronto gets a young scoring forward.
    -
To COL: Hanson, Reimer, 2nd in 2011
    To TOR: Mueller
    -
This might take a little more from the Leafs, or maybe not. For whatever reason, negotiations obviously aren’t going smoothly in Colorado. Mueller’s a good player, but Colorado is still early enough in their rebuild to keep adding depth in picks and prospects.

    Leafs have 3 scoring lines:
    -
    Berglund – Bozak – Kessel ————Phaneuf ‘C’ – Schenn
    Versteeg – Kadri – Armstrong———-Komisarek – Kaberle
    Kulemin – Grabo – Mueller————Gunnarsson – ______
    Sjostrom – Mitchell – C.Orr ———–(Lebda)
    (Brown)
    -
CAP HIT – 58.941 million (w/ buyouts and cap penalty)

    @ Wook:
I have seen/heard waaaaaaaay too many ridiculous thoughts regarding hockey players of yesterdecade being bandied about…sorry I couldn’t see the inherent sarcasm behind your comment, i should have. But imagine…imagine that Allison really did make the team. I have nightmares about that…

  • KABERLE WASN’T TRADED

I would rather extend and keep Beauchemin over Komisarek, though it’s unlikely to happen. Beauch has a better cap hit and he’s more of a well-rounded player compared to Komi. Granted, he had a bad past season. However, it was an anomaly and the team around him was equally poor. Bad decisions and giveaways resulting from him trying to do too much. With Phaneuf stepping in he’ll likely calm down and return to previous form. Komisarek is more one-dimensional and will continue to take a large amount of dumb penalties due to the style of hockey he plays.

Regardless, as initially stated, this likely won’t be the case. Between his higher cap hit and his partial NTC, Komi is fairly safe. He’s also more of a Burke type player.
