Leafs Young Players’ Draft – Katsaros vs. Tran

In the spirit of ranking the organization’s top young talent (prospects + established NHLers), Gus and I will be facing off tonight at approximately 10pm EST in a 1 on 1 drafting session of Maple Leaf players who are 24 years of age or younger (1986 birthdays and on).

Gus IS the Pro Scouting Coordinator for Mckeen’s Hockey, so I will have my work cut out for me, but I’m looking forward to the challenge. We will be selecting 6 forwards, 4 defensemen, and 1 goaltender each for a total of 22 young players with approximately 1 minute pauses between each pick. Contract status and/or cap hit will not be taken into account as this is purely an evaluation of performance and potential.

The draft will take place live in the comments section for all readers to follow, so be sure to come out and provide your two cents as it happens. Following the draft, the MLHS community will have the opportunity to vote to decide which crop of young players they would most like to move forward with.

See you all at 10pm EST tonight!

They better offer Crescenzi a contract. I think he’ll have a big year with the Rangers this year. If we don’t have him signed- someone will. I really want this kid on our team.

If you want answers…just say “oh, what a 7-1 win”… then everyone will say “you moron- it was 4-3″.
    Reverse psychology (maybe)

Based on these past few games, there seems to be a bit too much chaos in Kadri’s game. He hangs on to the puck too long on the rush and makes passes as a last resort (as others noted). Overthinking everything, imo.

He could play in the NHL this year, but I’d say he needs to simplify things to make any impact and have a chance at sticking.

I also don’t think he’s playing with a lot of confidence right now. That aspect could change once he suits up with the ‘real’ Leafs. But the rookies standing out more than him are not more talented. They are just keeping it simple and playing their game.

There’s no harm in signing him. He would be on a slide rule contract, and not count against our limit for this season at least. The Marlies have a ton of expiring contracts next year, so there is defnitely room to fit him in even after the slide rule falls off.

Everyone can agree on that. Are there actually any true Sens fans? I know when I grew up, most people were Leafs fans, a few weird kids were Habs fans, a couple were Boston or something else Luke that, and then there were the former Leafs fans turned whatever fans…but no Sens fans. At least none that really cared for them and liked hockey. There was this one stupid kid, but he didn’t like hockey and didn’t know anything about the Sens- couldn’t name any players. No one listened to him so he and the Sens were ignored.
Anyways, that was kind of long-winded, so carry on now.

This has always been a criticism of his game though. Whenever Kadri plays with lesser talents, he tries too hard to be the main event. When he’s surrounded by players at or above his level though, he simplifies his game and becomes effective. He also needs to be fired up. I think the first time Wilson yells “you’ll have to do better if you want to be in the NHL!”, we’ll see the real Kadri.

    @ HHT:
I think it’s called rust and nerves. We give seasoned all star vets a chance to get going. Why not Kadri?
Besides I think when he gets to play a more organized system with real pros and he will start to turn things on.

I was impressed with the play of Gysbers, Holzer, Ross, McKegg, Mueller, Olden, Irwin and Carrick.
I guess I was expecting more from D’Amgio and Kadri and it’s not that they played bad hockey in the tourney, it’s just I thought they’d dominate the play.
As for Crescenzi, I was impressed with his play and could see Burke offering him a contract after some of the junior aged players are sent back to their respective teams.
