Alex and I will once again continue the Young Guns prospect draft. We are drafting:

6 9 forwards, 4 defensemen, 1 goaltender
Total of 22 young players with a birthday year no later than 1986 (24 yrs old max)
Contract status and/or cap hit will not be taken into account

The draft will take place live in the comments section for all readers to follow, so be sure to come out and provide your two cents as it happens. More details after the jump.

The intention of this exercise isn’t as a fantasy draft, it’s not the accumulation of points. We’re essentially carving the Leafs prospects into two sides and evaluating which of the two squads has more appeal.

    @ SicTransitGloria:
Yup it was. I’d love for the Leafs to scoop him up…

When you got 63 dubs going to camp, it is hard to pick the starting team.
    Realistically, this are the finalists:

    FORWARDS
Colby Armstrong, Tyler Bozak, Mike Brown, Luca Caputi, Jerry D’Amigo, Mikhail Grabovski, Christian Hanson, Nazem Kadri, Phil Kessel, Nikolai Kulemin, Clarke MacArthur, Greg McKegg, John Mitchell, Marcel Mueller, Colton Orr, Brad Ross, Fredrik Sjostrom, Kris Versteeg

    DEFENCEMEN
Francois Beauchemin, Jeff Finger, Carl Gunnarsson, Tomas Kaberle, Mike Komisarek, Brett Lebda,Dion Phaneuf, Luke Schenn

    GOALTENDERS
    Jean-Sebastien Giguere, Jonas Gustavsson

If we get even half sensible goaltending (check) and can play a good defensive game (check) we have enough fire power to score some goals and keep us in a lot of games. We are not gunna take a president’s trophy with this roster, but godammit there is no reason we can’t hold our own in most games.

What I like about the Leafs this year is that all four lines will have speed and the capability to play and play hard every shift…and when inevitable injuries set in we have another level of players who will step in and work just as hard. Last year when certain lines were on I knew I could go make a sandwich…nothing was going to happen!!!
