Alex and I will once again continue the Young Guns prospect draft. We are drafting:

6 9 forwards, 4 defensemen, 1 goaltender
Total of 22 young players with a birthday year no later than 1986 (24 yrs old max)
Contract status and/or cap hit will not be taken into account

The draft will take place live in the comments section for all readers to follow, so be sure to come out and provide your two cents as it happens. More details after the jump.

The intention of this exercise isn’t as a fantasy draft, it’s not the accumulation of points. We’re essentially carving the Leafs prospects into two sides and evaluating which of the two squads has more appeal.

Damn boys both Schenn and Kadri for Parise? I would rather trade one and another prospect.. Giving them both up would be to hard for me to do…

    @ flappypaddle:
Can you imagine a line of Parise,Bozak and Kessel,it would be one of the best lines in the league.40-45 goals by Parise and 50+ by Kessel with Bozak probably getting 25-30.

They cancelled the spring hunt a while back and now there is a shi load of black bears. In fact we have a a steady increase in black bear human interaction including one near death attack

    @ Potsy:
Hmm depends why they cancelled the hunt, it isn’t an aribitrary decision. Just because you have more interactions with humans doesn’t mean there are more bears…if you’re talking NW Ontario, there is a lot of water down in spots, which means berries and other food sources aren’t available so you’ll have bears being more aggressive. Also, as we expand development into new areas, you’re displacing animals so increases in encounters are expected. If they cancelled the hunt for a low bear population, I’m sure it is valid and if so they will reinstitue the hunt in a few years when the population has rebounded. There are other reasons a hunt may be cancelled, often political reasons and if thats the case it might never be reopened. I can’t say one way or the other whats going on without reading more on it but I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that more bears is the reason for more bear attacks.

Interestingly, there is some data that shows certain years where this a disproportionate number of attacks but with no logical reason. It just is. I personally think the stars are in some weird alingment and all the nut-jobs are out in the bush and aren’t being bear smart.

    @ Ensign:
I see, there was the first Southern Ontario Black bear attack ( the near death one) near port Severn. Which raised some alarm bells. I know alot of hunt camps are advertising 100% success rates due to the large number of black bears.

personally I am not a hunter, but I do enjoy venison! My father in law is a hunter ans has small camp near Bancroft. So he shoots ‘em I eat ‘em. I like to fish and I subscribe to outdorrs mag that covers both fishing and hunting so when I am on the can I read the fishing stuff first and the hunting stiff second.

The bear hunt is often a source of passionate reader mail

ahahaha, nice interpretation… I would have to assume that we could sign some FA’s in 2 years.
    .
if you’ve noticed like 80% of all FA’s are signing 2 year deals this year because the CBA expires then and no one wants to be holding a contract at that point.
    .
there are going to be a retarded number of players available then.
    .
plus, just imagine how this would work: we make the trade above, Schenn+Kadri for Parise… then we sign B.Richards as a UFA next year.
    .
our top line would be one of the best to come alone in decades… Parise-Richards-Kessel… We’d have a chance at a cup with that as our top line and our defense still intact from this year minus schenn and plus aulie/gyspers

    @ Potsy:
Bear outfitters have high success rates because they bait and bears are incredibly easy to bait…also their 100% success rate is usually based on a low number of licenses so it makes it easier to fill them all.

Hunting is a lot of fun, I do it because I eat the meat. I don’t bear hunt since I’m not a fan of the meat.
