Conflicting Reports on Pat Burns

Contrary to numerous but erroneous reports this morning that he had succumbed to his battle with lung cancer, Pat Burns is still alive at his home in Quebec with his family.

Apparently, Burns has even had a little fun with all of the reports, telling Bob McKenzie;

“Here we go again. They’re trying to kill me before I’m dead. I come to Quebec to spend some time with my family and they say I’m dead. I’m not dead, far (expletive) from it. They’ve had me dead since June. Tell them I’m alive. Set them straight.”

Reports yesterday indicated that Burns’ health had taken a turn for the worse in his fight with lung cancer, which he has been battling since 2009.  He previously battled colon and liver cancer.

Regardless, our thoughts go out to Pat, his family and friends in this difficult time.

Burns led the Maple Leafs to the conference finals in his first 2 years in Toronto after coaching the Canadiens for 4 seasons. The 3-time Jack Adams award winner also coached the Bruins for 4 seasons and won the Stanley Cup with the Devils in 2003.

We all know someone whose life has been affected by cancer. Perhaps today is a good day to make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.

    I’m keeping it real…I’m not hanging my hopes on Kadri alone…especially since I dont thin he makes the team this year.. at least not to start

    @ long_suffering_leaf_fan:
    Let’s hope Kadri is the best of the bunch. It sure puts drafting into perspective. It is a roll of the dice at best. Ryan Sittler was drafted 7th overall? I followed his career path with the Flyers and then his one year stint with the Baby Leafs. Draft day was the highlight of his career.

    I still remember the day the Leafs poached Burns. Hearing about it on the radio, grabbing a Leafs jersey that I had and putting Burns on the back with masking tape, jumping in my car and tearing up to a gas bar where my buddy, a big habs fan, worked. I walked in and one look told me he heard the news. I turned my back and I swear they could hear him swearing up in TO or montreal. Good to hear Burns is still kicking. That was a good time to be a Leafs fan. Hopefully some more days like that ahead again.

    I lost my father to cancer some years back. Its hard stuff.

    They released the three teams in training camp. Wilson stated that he is keeping lines together to try and get the chemistry going before the season begins.
    Looks like possibly (Bozak, Kessel, Kulemin) and he has Grabovski with MacArthur and (Mueller?) and Kadri with Versteeg and (Armstrong?).He also has Kaberle with Komisarek, Phaneuf with Beuchemin and Schenn with Gunnarsson and/or Lebda.

    Wilson stated today that he has set up the teams so the players can build some chemistry with their projected line mates. I am actually surprised with Wilson’s ideas of the top two lines. He kept Boz Kes Kuli together which I agree with but then he puts verst Kadri arms together on Team Kennedy and Grabs with Macarth and Muel. From watching the rookie games, I thought it was quite obvious that though Kadri has a lot of talent, he is still not ready for the big D of the NHL. Grabs should be our second line center and should be playing with Verst and Arm

    Savard out for a few weeks due to concussion symptoms…gee there’s a surprise. Looks like Chiarelli was going to try to fleece someone with damaged goods! Let’s see you move him now asshole. What a crooked ass he is, and Savard sort of played along as he could have easily said he was still feeling ill effects.

    The report says these symptoms emerged over the past week or so…yeah right…another lie.

    Kadri, Versteeg, Armstrong sounds like a sick 2nd line, hope Kadri can walk the talk. He has put up big expectations for himself and sounds very confident in his abilities. Lets just hope that he is able to turn it up a notch when the big lights are on.

    Don’t be too concerned about Kadri being with Versteeg and Armstrong, while Grabovski is with MacArthur and likely either Sjostrom, Muller or D’Amigo. The Leafs won’t have two scoring lines, but rather three scoring lines with varying amounts of defensive responsibility. Plus, we all know Wilson juggles the lines as much as any coach in the league. Grabovski will get plenty of time with Versteeg, and whoever else is offensively gifted.
