Question Period – Leafs Edition

The Toronto Maple Leafs continue its descent to the Eastern Conference basement. Now one loss shy from matching its eight-game losing steak of last season, which resulted in a 29th place finish, the Leafs are a carcass for the hockey world to tear apart.

Fire this guy, trade this guy, call-up this guy, demote this guy or put this guy on a different line… we’ve heard it all from the analysts. Now I want to hear what the Leafs’ faithful have to say about their team’s free-fall in the standings.

So, without further ado, here’s 10 questions for you all:

1) Should Ron Wilson get fired? Explain.

2) Is it time for Nazem Kadri to play for the Leafs? Or should he remain in the American Hockey League and continue to develop?

3) If the Leafs are to trade one of its defensemen, who would you choose between Mike Komisarek, Francois Beauchemin and Tomas Kaberle? Why?

4) Who should Brian Burke target to help end the Leafs’ dismal scoring-drought?

5) Is a trade even necessary right now? If not, why?

6) Do you think Dion Phaneuf and Tomas Kaberle would benefit offensively from an upgraded top-six unit?

7) Will the line combinations of Kulemin-Grabovski-Kessel and MacArthur-Bozak-Versteeg help light a fire under the Leafs?

8 ) If Burke waits until the off-season to bolster the forward ranks, are the playoffs still attainable?

9) Do you think Kris Versteeg will develop into a 60-point player in Toronto? Or has Burke already lost the trade?

10) By the end of the 2010-11 season, who will no longer don the Blue and White, in your opinion?

You stay classy, MLHS.

In PreSeason, Burke kept saying it’s ultimately Wilson’s decision who sticks with the team. He had no control over it. Now it’s Burkie’s bus and he’s driving.

Aullie has been the Marlies most consistant d-man and Kadri has played very well last 7 games. Worth a look at the nhl level…can’t hurt.

Really looking forward to seeing what Aulie can do. Hopefully both he and Kadri listen to Burke about not trying to be the “saviour” of the team, and just go out and play their games.

With Backes off the market that really only leaves Richards, aside from him it will just be a bunch of second tier forwards. I wasn’t completley sold on Backes as he has struggled since his 31 goal campaign, and other than his size and apparent leadership what else does he bring. Burke will have to hit another homerun to get the top 6 forward (s) we desperately need. Kadri might be able to light it up for a few games but he isn’t the answer to our prayers, he is only going to delay the inevitable.

The two call ups will buy Burke enough time no doubt to hash out a deal, whether it happens around American thanksgiving or late in the year that’s another question.

Looks like the only big names right now are Richards and Semin until they get locked up. But hey we have a 1st round pick next year, who would you give that up for? Think Burke has the balls to give it up too?
