Reimer In, Giguere Out

The Toronto Maple Leafs suffered a bit of a loss in their win last night against the Nashville Predators. Midway through the third period, goaltender J.S. Giguere suffered an undisclosed injury (believed to be groin), and sat out the remainder of the game. He will now be out of the lineup for at least tomorrow night’s game against the New Jersey Devils. In his absence, Toronto has called up goaltender James Reimer from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies. Reimer has appeared in 9 games this season for the Marlies, posting a record of 5-3-1 with one shutout, a 2.90 goals against average and a 0.918 save percentage. Reimer will play the role of back-up goaltender to Jonas Gustavsson on Thursday night, but could see NHL action should Giguere’s injury be more long-term.

Could Leafs defenceman Luke Schenn emerge as more of an all-around defenceman than anyone expected? http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/leafs-beat/schenn-joins-the-rush/article1803608/
    .
He obviously means anyone not on MLHS.

Stupid statement in my opinion. The kid is a full year younger then Kadri and puts up the same numbers. So where does thateave Kadri? B Schenn is the next Mike Richards in the making. Pure team first guy who scores, passes, fights and wins
Really? Have you ever seen him play?

World Juniors, Memorial Cup and yeah he is exactly as billed by Jordan

    B. Schenn seems more like a grinder to me (so far). Maybe like a Martin Hanzal type of player who can be an effective shutdown center and maybe contribute 40+ points. Of course, I’m just basing that on what he’s shown me so far. For all I know, he could evolve into a top-6 player if given the opportunity.

    @ Cactus:
The thing is he put un insane numbers as a 17 and 18 year old. He was one of the youngest guys in that draft class too. He’s almost L Schenns size too which is nuts. I still have total faith Burke will get him someday….somehow

For many from the time he was drafted. His “slump” was as much a part of who he was stuck playing with and his drop in ice time as anything last year. Look at Myers this year without a pmd as a partner.

I have held my tongue, but this site was going crazy last year about how we should have picked Myers over Schenn, it was sickening and now Luke has been arguably our best player and easily are best defenseman

    That’s what I was alluding to. We’ve gone a complete 180.

For the record, I’ve always thought Myers was overrated. I’m sure he’s better than how he’s playing right now, but his stats were inflated big-time by Miller last season. People are surprised at how many giveaways he has right now? They should look at last season’s total. Duchene should have won the Calder, IMO.

James Reimer on the ice at #leafs morning skate, complete with Movember stache and Marlies mask. He’ll back up Gustavsson tonight.

I think the Myers will be a stud in the NHL. Needs to work on his defensive positioning but has a lot offensive upside….this kid will be good.

Sutter would be doing a better job if he’d trade Backlund for Mitchell IMO… Mitchell’s that #winger Iginla’s line’s been looking for since they got the awesome Stajan….
