Saying Goodbye to Pat Burns

According to TSN, Pat Burns, the only coach to ever win the Jack Adams Trophy with three different NHL clubs, has passed away due to complications with cancer.

“For those who know me well, I’ve never backed down from any fight, and I’m not going to back down from this one,” said Burns. He was a man who was full of energy and determination both behind the bench and in life to the very end.

We at MLHS send our condolences to the Burns’ family as we remember our favorite Leaf moments of the legendary head coach.

“I know my life is nearing its end and I accept that,” said Burns. “As for my career, I always said to my kids, ‘you don’t cry because it’s over, you’re happy because it happened.’ That’s the main thing. I’m happy it happened.”

If it wasn’t for these damn women being inducted into the hall, basically forced upon the hall with all this womens rights crap then Pat Burns would have been inducted. Shame on everyone associated with the hall, so disgraceful! Such a black eye on the HHOF. Pat you were a great man and deserved way better towards the end of your life.

Patty Boyo, you will be missed, you came oh so close to delivering a cup to the Leafs. That was a great run, and I thank you for that.

    @ luckyluke:
Incorrect. There are separate categories, player and builder.
    .
Granato and James both were in the player category, which each year consists of three inductees (Ciccarelli was the 3rd). The builder category, which is typically two inductees per year, was comprised this year of Jimmy Devellano and Doc Seaman.
    .
In the future, please do a little bit of basic fact-checking before making such ignorant claims. Thank you.

He was the 1st Leafs coach I saw as a kid. I wasn’t quite old enough to remember the 93 and 94 runs but I’m grateful for Pat being with the franchise for a while. I was drunk last night at the bar for my friend’s birthday and the TV’s kept showing Pat Burns and then it dawned on me that he had passed. RIP.

Pat Burns was the epitome of what a coach should be. An incredible track record and 3 cups! The man built winners, but more importantly, he built TEAMS.

He should have been inducted. Today the HHOF is a gutless Hall of Shame.

No comment at HHOF.COM – just selling all kinds of crap, book signings, DVDs.

    @ HHT:

Sorry, I meant 3 Jack Adams trophies and 1 Cup.

Sad day for hockey, but I’m glad he’s at peace and no longer suffering.
