GDT: Seguin at Kessel

The Leafs were shut out by one of the league’s worst defensive teams and goaltenders (statistically) on Thursday. Tonight they’ll face one of the stingiest defensive corps backed by the hottest goaltender in the league (Tim Thomas – .956 SV%). If they were looking for a tonic for their offensive shortfalls in other words, this probably won’t be it. Cashing in on powerplay opportunities tonight will be a major key to a result against the divisional foe.

Colby Armstrong will return to the line-up and try to bring some much needed physicality to a line with Kessel and Versteeg. Kessel will center the unit in hopes of finding a bit more space in which to operate away from Zdeno Chara. It will be interesting to see if he takes care of his defensive assignments considering Kessel is usually the first to leave the defensive zone.

JS Giguere will get the start tonight. Not surprisingly a good road team (9-3 this season) given their ability to rely on defence and goaltending, the Bruins are the first of five upcoming meetings with opponents at or near the top of the Eastern Conference. The puck will have to start finding the back of the net soon or December will be anything but merry in Leafland.

Does Dion WANT to play forward? Has he ever in the past? I like the idea on the PP, but not sure if as a permanent move it’s a great idea. But who knows?

Also, do we need a 3rd/4th line player at, what is it, 6.5 million? YIKES

Giggy should be fine. He’s practicing today. Reimer is in Washington just in case.

Well once he settles into the forward role he would move up to play with Kessel

Spezza I HORRIBLE for giveaways though. I wanted him here until this year when I actually watched him and he’s just plain horrid. Like unbelieveable for how bad he gives it away. I dunno about HOW MANY, but the time of the game he does is crazy. Costed them a few points already

The line of Versteeg, Army and Kessel was very good. I don’t want to break that up.

As far as tonight goes, win or lose all I want to see is the same commitment to working hard every shift. Finishing checks, fewer dumb turnovers (Komi, hope you are reading this). And using our speed bigtime. If I see the hustle and work our future is bright.

Komi had 1 GvA and was +1 against Boston. How about Schenn. Luke was -1 and had 4 GvA (and 1TkA). He was lucky Wheeler was a stiff on the breakaway.
