GDT: Leafs Look To Impose Capital Punishment
Share

The Maple Leafs express fresh off a huge 3-2 comeback victory over their division rivals from Beantown hit the road hoping to find the rarest of rare for them this season, a victory on foreign ice in Washington, D.C.  The Leafs are 0-7-1 in their past eight games away from the friendly confines of the Air Canada Centre and are hoping to avoid their first 8-game losing streak since Nov 7 – Dec 6 / 1996.

That might be easier said than done as standing in their way are the explosive Washington Capitals and their impressive 12-2-1 record at home, tops in the Eastern Conference.  Staying out of the penalty box will be of the utmost importance as the Leafs porous penalty kill is downright sieve like on the road with a 64.7% success fail rate.

Toronto is 0-2-1 in its last three visits to the Verizon Center, allowing 17 goals. After a beastly return to the lineup on Saturday, Armstrong has been promoted to line one with Kessel (who is back at center ice ) and Versteeg. Lines after the jump courtesy of TuckerThomas:

    @ Jordan:
oh yeah, he did that move last game.. watch him though – he lost the puck for a second, scooped it to back hand then had to try that back hand roof move – but, the goalie was with him the whole way… I “think” Kadri wanted to go back to the forehand on that one, but, bobbled it a bit and ran out of room.. hopefully someone asks him about it..

    @ wiski:
Agreed … long term Kessel is not the answer. Guy can’t win a faceoff to save his life and plays terribly defensively as a centre. We need his speed breaking out of our end at our blueline. In the short term it works out okay but look at the faceoff numbers tonight and watch him backcheck and play D…it ain’t pretty

I don`t think Kessel at center is a long term solution but seems tobe working lately.

Don’t forget though…he never played wing until his second year in Boston. I don’t think he has the gumption to be a winger. He’s got great passing abilities along with great speed. I think he just has a better chance to maximize his potential as a center where he has more room to operate and less worry about being munched into the boards.

So based on last years pts total, 88 got you into the playoffs. Thats 1.07PPG. Even after all the bad play we had, we still are sitting .92PPG, We arnt far off. Bang off 4 wins and we are at 1.07 lol.
Ideally, if we can get 2 of the next 4 PTS, we SHOULD rape Edmonton after being embarrassed. and we should be at 28PTS in 29 games. .97ppg

    @ Potsy:
Wilson is a patient coach,I think it was MacArthur that credited his success to wilson being more patient than coaches he had in the past. But good question how much more time does he give Komi?

Not sure about the calder rule. Not that I think he has the type of game to win awards. As for the patience did Komi get benched in the third again? anyone know? If he did thats two in a row an two third period comeback wins, Just sayin
