NHL Team Records in B2B Games vs Tired Teams

With the NHL trade deadline now over, attention turns to the stretch drive for a playoff spot. The concept of a 3-point game will be in vogue as teams – and fans – cringe at the sight of so many teams entering extra time to determine the final outcome of games, while each club banks a point.

As outlined in the preseason, some clubs enjoy a distinct advantage over others when facing a tired team that has played the night before against a rested club. For the records of NHL teams in 2010,
you can view those here.

The following represents the records of NHL teams as of February 28, 2011.

The breakdown of remaining games after March 1 as victims and taking advantage of teams playing on consecutive nights can be viewed here.

The records are split below into split tables. On the Left side, the record of clubs when playing as a rested team against a team that has played the night before (Advantage).

On the Right side is the record of clubs when facing a rested club on the second game on back-to-back nights (Victim).

The charts represent a break down on overall games, and further broken down into home and road records for 2010-11.

Oh man – A buddy of mine was mocking me for being excited about the playoffs being a ‘possibility’. Long story short, I bet him $25 that we’d make it. Not because I’m convinced we will, but because he gave me 10-to-1 odds!
    .
    Let’s go boys!

The Leafs have worked hard and achieved lately more than they can over the long haul. They deserve credit but Burke knows they are not ready.
Realistically if they play at their potential they will probably go 9-8-2 for twenty more points. This will give the Leafs 83 points which is a great result considering how terrible they played for most of the year. But 83 points is not going to get them in the playoffs. At the very least it will take 87 points. They will not catch Carolina or Buffalo. If the Leafs had 70 points right now you could argue they are in the playoff hunt but even then they would have to play well under enormous pressure to stay in the 8th spot.
If the Leafs continue to give 100% and Reimer stays hot we can enjoy the last 19 games but I would not get too exicited here. Even Burke did not let himself get exited as he knew even overpaying for a couple of players was not going to make them strong enough yet.

    @ Scotchy:
Burke definately knew what he was getting in Brown and he was exactly what we needed for the bottom 6.
It makes a lot of sense to me what Burke does. He normally trades for players that he’s very familiar with. Former players or people he’s scouted heavily to prior to wanting to draft them. Being so familiar with the player makes trading for him easy. The target player might not be the answer for first line centre, for example, but it’s a lot easier to know exactly what he’s worth to you in a trade. So you rarely give up something that isn’t worth the player you’re bring in. I don’t know that i said it very well, but it’s a lot better than what we all do on here speculating based on what we mostly assume players are worth because we’ve heard or seen little flashes of their careers.

    I disagree.
During the month of Feb. I believe we had a record of 8 wins, 2 losses and 4 OT losses for a total of 20 points in 14 games for a point per game total of 1.43 points per game. If we carry that out to the final 19 games it would work out to be 27 more points, which will put them 90 points . I still doubt they can do it but there is a chance for sure.

A new Month and a new winning streak…Boys it all start tonight with a big win and then who knows but we need a win tonight. They got us last time but I think Reimer will come out on top in this one that was one of his worst games for us in a while and he will carry us. We still need to get Mac,Kuli and Grads going I hope tonight they turn it up a notch. Kessel’s line will get a couple tonight. GO LEAFS GO

    @ Scotchy:
    @ lonsmos2:
well, best case scenario with the future in mind (hate replacing Gigure but…):
    1. Reimer stays healthy and plays lights out
    2. Gigure decides surgery is in his best interest now (based on his feeling that the Monster is ready to back up Reimer)
    3. Reimer gets pulled after the first ten minutes of an upcoming game in which we’re up 1 – 0 because his contact lense has popped out
    4. Monster comes in, stops 34 shots and stands on his head to earn the shared shutout
    5. We hear that Reimer could have returned but didn’t have to and was given the opportunity to rest based on the Monster’s awesome play
    6. Monster starts one more game because there’s a renewed belief in him, and to allow Reimer a rest before the playoffs begin … the results of the Monster’s play in that game don’t have any bearing on the standings since we’ve clinched a spot already … still, he gets the shutout
    7. Going into summer the Leafs are giddy having 2 young goalies battling for the top spot, with 2 more in the wings hoping to move up the chart themselves

The worst city is Las Vegas – hands down – followed by LA….those california tanning bedders have got attention spans of a gnat.

    @ Dan hockey fan:
Wow….you know how to drag everything that is good down!!! I disagree with wholeheartedly, the Leafs go 12-5-2 and make the playoffs….they want it more than anything right now, if not to show Burke that they can do it, but for each other!!! By what Burke did, getting rid of Versteeg and Kaberle, he has made them closer and into a unit as a team…that’s why they are playing so much better as of late! Even when we don;t play all that well, we still get a point of it these days…plus, Buffalo and Carolina are going to tire and we will pounce on them, and New York, is going down like they do every year!!
