NHL Team Records in B2B Games vs Tired Teams

With the NHL trade deadline now over, attention turns to the stretch drive for a playoff spot. The concept of a 3-point game will be in vogue as teams – and fans – cringe at the sight of so many teams entering extra time to determine the final outcome of games, while each club banks a point.

As outlined in the preseason, some clubs enjoy a distinct advantage over others when facing a tired team that has played the night before against a rested club. For the records of NHL teams in 2010,
you can view those here.

The following represents the records of NHL teams as of February 28, 2011.

The breakdown of remaining games after March 1 as victims and taking advantage of teams playing on consecutive nights can be viewed here.

The records are split below into split tables. On the Left side, the record of clubs when playing as a rested team against a team that has played the night before (Advantage).

On the Right side is the record of clubs when facing a rested club on the second game on back-to-back nights (Victim).

The charts represent a break down on overall games, and further broken down into home and road records for 2010-11.

    @ lonsmos2:
still, is the Monster really better than Gigure right now? i think the Leaf’s judgment right now is that he’s not … but when they believe he is the 2nd best option after Reimer, he will be the backup in place of Gigure
… much like the doctors worrying about Grabovski a few weeks back, I’ll have to defer to the staff on this one too …

I guess but certainly from a guy with no inside information or experience in these matters all I can say is Giggy looked completely unable to move side to side. He was good square to the shooter and did well like that but any rebound off to the side and he was toast.

    cannot argue that. at. all.

I think the Gus/Giggy thing boils down to this:

We look like we are out of it and then Gus gets some starts.
Why? Well imo this is his last chance to see if he can play with the big boys or BB will turn the page on him.

We need to walk into next season with confidence in our tenders and with Reimer we have half of that solved. BB is going to want to know if he should get Bryz or go with the 2 young guns.

I do like that BB is treating Giggy with a strong measure of respect here however, speaks to the team and to potential FA’s.

    @ Scotchy:
i think Burke would try to sign Bryz even if he felt Reimer and Monster are both NHL quality goalies.
Monster can still go into the summer without confidence and come to camp with a new fire and perhaps even a new technical presence in the net. Things can change over the summer for guys sometimes easier than it can during the season.

    @ MacInMoscow:

    Just seems logical.

Off topic but, I can’t get a good read on where this board is with going after Richards anymore.

I myself have (forgive me) waffled on this issue as of late as I think BB will look to add a 1st line center at a more reasonable cost than what Richards will comand.

    Thoughts?
