Game In 10 – Game 71

Hello, this is Xterratu, a former member of LeafsHQ and a lovable Croatian hockey dude. What, did you think I’d retire? I’m too young for that sh*t. An offer from the Hot Stove is too good to pass up, and this is my way of thanking MLHS for giving me this chance to write again. Thanks guys. I’m glad to be a part of the crew. Nothing is over, including the Game In 10 which is back and is more awesome than a big wombat in heat (ever). More for the biggest win of the season.

1 – The Leafs are 31-30-10 Ka ching!

2 – Guess who’s back, back again, Kadri‘s back, and me, but Kadri’s more important because Matt Lasshoff just doesn’t get the coverage of our top prospect. What’s that Colborne?

3 – I don’t know why I still get excited when we go on the PP because we DION’T PHANEUF! Why do I think the majority of his play this season has to do with that cut early on? He’s been an offensive monster during the most important time in the season. Pretty captainy. 5 goals in 10 games.

4 – Grabo gets the A, and if you don’t like that you must not like hardworking productive hockey and that probably deserves a spanking. No, I’m not doing it, ask your girlfriend/boyfriend etc. I’d continue but it just gets kinky.

5 – Boyce to Bozak for a quickfire double, one has to think that a player can’t do anything more than what Boyce is doing to keep his spot on the roster.

6 – Joffrey Lupul is a pretty good defensive player, even better when desperation kicks in, you know how that mom lifted a car to save her baby? Well, Lupul isn’t a baby!

7 – When Paul Hendrick announced James Reimer was starting I thought to myself – ok, now we’ll see what the kid is made of. Turns out he’s made of ice. So cool he’s Frosty the Snowman. James Reimer? James Reimer. A 36 save performance for the W.

8 – Pierre McGuire calls Luke Schenn the human eraser, does that mean he erases humans with an eraser for a head or that he got bit by a radioactive piece of stationary? Good thing he isn’t known as a human rubber. Just an awesome game by him.

9 – I’m not about hyping kids, so I’ll just say what your eyes are saying, Lashoff had a somewhat solid game. I’m really starting to like our D core now. Oh, and Komisarek got injured. Despite that crippling fact…no I can’t do it.

10 – Even with this win, playoffs are still a mile away. But what’s wrong with just believing? Nothing else you can do really. Either way, there’s something to be said for one of the youngest teams in the league, a rebuilding team, that’s playing meaningful hockey mid March. PS If you don’t like the Game In 10 now, give it time, it’ll grow on you like skin disease, but a good…ah never mind.

Just watched the game on ESPN360 and here is a couple of observations:
    -
First period and part of second period the Fox Sport commentators couldn’t stop talking about Komisarek and the opportunities the Canes had with him and co on the ice. They are so right, and when they notice that on the beaches down south then it is bad.
    -
Lashoff was OK, didn’t make huge mistakes, didn’t look out of place either. He should be capable of providing 12-15 minuts per game in the future at a resonable price.
    -
3rd and 4th line guys: Sjostrom, Brent, Brown, Boyce are starting to be a good unit. Add Armstrong and move Bozak down to the third line,; add a player or two in the off season and the Leafs are settled in that area.
    -
Kadri – a lot better than last time around. Still needs to find his game, so he is work in progress. My respect to Dallas Eakins, all the Marlies that are coming up to the Leafs are well prepared and can fit right into to Leafs. Great work. Keep them coming.
    -
The Captain is back on the bridge. I believe that we offcially can say that Phaneuf is back in form.
    -
The Aulie and Phaneuf trade is looking better and better at least from our point of view.
    -
Phaneuf, Aulie, Schenn and Gunnarson good top 4. Lashoff if he can continue is play could fill in as 5/6 defenseman but we still need a QB for the PP
    -
So rest Reimer tonight – surprise the Panthers and play Gustavson.
    -
Oh it is good to be a Leaf.

Soooooo….did Wilson play the Giguere card to get the Canes to practice shooting low stick side rather than high glove side??? He couldn’t be that shrewed…could he?

He said last night Giggy would be starting but after yesterday I don’t believe anything Wilson says with regards to who’s starting.

What was your impression of that game last night? I was a nervous wreck the whole 3rd period. They just couldn’t seem to get the friggin puck out of the zone.

    @ Burtonboy:
I felt the same way. I don’t know if they were protecting the lead or knew they were up by 2 and trying to conserve any energy they could for tonight’s game but I was also a nervous wreck. Reminded me of the Atlanta game a few weeks ago when Reimer got hurt and Giggy came in and they couldn’t get the puck out of our end.

how do we feel about Kadri/Lashoff last evening. I thought they fit in quite nicely. One bad giveaway by Lashoff I saw but didn’t look out of place at all. How fast can we bring someone up to replace Komi, fuck Lebda

The good thing is we got the 2 points . I did notice the defense rarely gave up the second chance in their own end . For the big 4 ,Dion,Mohameed,Schenn and Gunner it was an excellent effort. Not liking the idea of starting Giggy and Lebda. Hoping like crazy Komi is a ble to start tonight.

    @ tron:
Lasshoff will be fine. I think he was a bit nevous but after that one gaff ya hardly noticed him which is a good thing. Sure as hell beats Komi and Lebda. Kadri was a bit of a non factor but he didn’t play badly . If he’s gonna be a center he has to get a lot better at faceoffs. I like his physicality though, seems much more stable on his skates now then he did before.

I thought Lasshoff looked pretty good out there for the amount of time he got. A few times I noticed him carrying the puck and he skates really well with it. I think if he gets to play a run of games his confidence will get up and we will see more from him.

I didn’t notice Kadri out there too much, which is kinda disappointing in a way. But I also didn’t really notice many of our fwds much last night. Phaneuf owned the game by all accounts.

So, passing grade to both call-ups but more of an edge to Lasshoff who I thought did some things that showed what he might bring to the table.

    @ rpearce76:
I think Kadri will be ok. Might have had a case of jitters last night which he eluded to during a pre-game interview with Paul Hendricks. Lets hope so anyway. Wilson didn’t seem upset with his play other than the faceoff circle which he mentioned in the post game. Lasshoff wasn’t bad at all.

I agree, both were nervous up there and I expected more “mistakes” then what were made. Kadri has definitely improved his backcheck though
