Game In 10 – Game 77

A character win when such a game was needed most to put a winning stamp on a great second part of the season.

1 – The Leafs are 35-32-10 and boy does that feel good.

2 – Dion just takes the puck into the Sabres defensive zone, hmhmh, bam – goal! It was a laser beam of a blast but you don’t see Miller giving up those too often. Also, when  rubber hits him he doesn’t stay down as long as he did on that Phaneuf bomb, then again, our captain’s shot isn’t your average NHL shot.

3 – This team is 20-13-6 during the last 39 games, puts losing streaks into perspective doesn’t it?

4 – Don’t look now but Nazem Kadri has arrived, I know we’ve all seen his fantastic work around the net and in the corners tonight, especially on that 2nd Leafs goal but what impressed me the most was how much he improved his defensive game compared to that last stint he had earlier in the year. Also HOLY HELL what a play on the MacArthur goal. Shoulder fake at the blueline, dangles in and has great vision to set up Mac for the goal.

5 – Darryl Boyce scores another HUGE goal for the Leafs, his 5th of the season – I know either Boyce or Crabb is probably done after this year but God I don’t want to see them go. Both guys worked their asses off to stay in the lineup and if Burke’s words of earning the jersey are true, they should be given another crack next season. Boyce is +10 on the season, how about that stat?

6 – If Gunnarsson didn’t give the puck away like that on the Niedermayer goal I wouldn’t have believed I was watching an important Leafs game, it’s never easy is it? On a side note, if Joe Bowen calls somebody Gary Lupul, his name IS Gary Lupul.

7 – Grabo doing what Grabo did during this entire season and that’s score and play like a machine. His 29th goal of the season blew the roof of the ACC! I don’t think he thinks that Kessel is one dimensional. MacArthur made a great outlet pass to get the ball, ehm puck rolling on that play.

8 – Burke is convinced Reimer is the real deal, are you? You should be. You really should be. 31 saves for the W, but big timely saves for the confidence everyone needed to get on his bandwagon. He even does ballet on occasion, yeah yeah you know what I mean.

9 – That’s it! I hereby declare all Leaf PPs until the end of the current season get declined in exchange for 3 Buffalo losses. So NHL, do we have a deal?

10 – Leafs played with desperation, we were aggressive on the puck, won a lot of puck battles and put the Sabres on their heels for most of this game in THE game of the season, one that will probably define this Leafs team for years to come. Clarke MacArthur, Phil Kessel, Dion Phaneuf, Nazem Kadri, Joffrey Lupul, Darryl Boyce, James Reimer, Mike Brown all had a fantastic game showing tons of effort and skill. Like I said before, that is much more important than making the playoffs this year. This team makes me feel proud to be a Leafs fan.

Wouldn’t it be funny If the Leafs won their next four games giving them 88 points and Montreal lost their next four against Carolina,New Jersey,Chicago and Ottawa and then the last game of the season we beat them to finish with 90 points and 8th spot with Montreal ending up with 89 points and out of the playoffs.

I think next year a fourth line should consist of brown Brent Boyce and/or rosehill but I think boyce should make the team over Brent. I like Brent but Boyce just has so much more energy in his game

My Dad is bringing home a puppy from Florida. He just picked him up today. I’ve convinced the family to name him “Reimer” and they all love it… Especially my dad (who is a huuuge Reimer fan) Great game tonights by the buds as well!

If that gets dummied mathematically,I’d settle for knocking the Smurfs out to allow The Canes to sneak in on the last night.
Everyone knows we’re up against it,and had zero help once again on the scoreboard(even the Flyers beat Pitt, killing our draft choice push)
But this run has been a blast, and it’s so energizing to feel playoff type hockey again.
Hell,I’m given’r on a Tues night..it’s just too much fun.

Can’t believe everyone on Sportnet getting on MacArthur for not scoring often enough, He is not a 30 goal guy, He is an assist machine, doing exactly what he did in Jr. with the Tigers, back then he was a Centre, more often then not he is the last one out of our zone making the pass to start a break-out, he is incredible along the wall and at the end of each night, look at the score sheet, more often than not he has two helpers. Some day they will get it Clarke, keep up the good work.

Kessel is what he is. I don’t know why people keep saying wait until he gets a center. He had Marc Savard and he was a 30 goal scorer. He has Tyler Bozak and he’s a 30 goal scorer. He will probably become a 40 goal scorer but that is all he is gonna be. He doesn;t seem to want to change his game to have more of an impact. He was surrounded by great players at the Olympics and ended up riding the pine.

Vancouver is really in cruise control…I think they’re due for a 1st round upset, when they’ll play a very hot team. If it’s Anaheim, I can see the Ducks beating them in 7. I’d take Getz-Perry-Ryan anyday over the Sedins-Burrows…
    .
    I love the 1st round…there’s always a great upset.

The Captain tends to skew reality to make his point; that, or he is unaware of the facts.

    Philthy Phillip:
    .
42G in 82GP Pace with Savard in 08/09.
    35G in 82GP Pace with Stajan/Bozak in 09/10.
31G in 82GP Pace with Bozak so far in 10/11.
    .
Savard in 08/09 was still a superstar playmaker, and therefore has easily been the best centerman Kessel has had. Bozak was great in 08/09, and Stajan was having his best year. Both were far better than Bozak has been this year. It has steadily been becoming more difficult for Kessel to score, as his teammates have been worse and worse.
    .
In 08/09, I think that Savard made him better, that in 09/10, he was neither helped nor hindered by his teammates, and this year he has been dragged down by Bozak’s lack of creativity and finish.
    .
Keeping in mind that Kessel has been 21, 22, and 23 in these three seasons, it’s safe to say his production should look something like this with different centers:
    .
Legit 1st line center: 40-50 goals per 82 games.
Decent top six quality center: 35-40 goals per 82 games.
Bottom six quality center: 30-35 goals per 82 games.

wow, does our future look BRIGHT!

just building character every night it seems.

good that kadri is going into the summer with a taste of this, and will come to camp with a full understanding of what he needs to be to stay up next year.

add brad richards to this team, put bozak at 3rd line centre, and how good would we be next season? 95 points? 100?

we need to play our first 40 games of the year like we just played our last 40. we HAVE to.
