New comment system: an easy guide to setting up your account

I’ve noticed lots of questions about the new comment system.  Here’s an easy step-by-step to getting yourself set up.

1. Scroll to the bottom of a post, click Login just above the comments box.

2. At the bottom of the login popup, click the “Register a new profile” link.

3. Enter your email address (the same one you used for your old MLHS account). Also enter a username and password. Don’t worry if your old username was taken just yet … this is only necessary for login purposes.

4. Once registered, you will be sent a verification email. Go to your inbox, click the verification link, and you will find yourself at the Disqus page (Disqus manages the comments system).

5. At the top right, you will see your username. Hover over it, and select “Edit Profile” from the dropdown list. Here you can merge with your prior MLHS account (provided you used the same email address as before), set your Avatar, and tie in other services such as Twitter and Facebook.

Helpful Hints:

(A) Unless you care about comment-spam in your Inbox, uncheck the options to enable email notifications in the “Notifications” tab.

(B) If your username was taken, you can set your name in the “Profile” tab.  This will be used in place of your username in the comments. (e.g. the system wouldn’t allow “Phil Kessel” as a username due to the space, but will allow “PhilKessel”. Setting the name in the profile tab as “Phil Kessel” ensures it shows up with the space included in the comments.)

(C) You no longer need to use the site login to leave a comment. Now, you can do one of three things to leave a comment:
(i) Hover over the Disqus icon at the top of the comments section, login option will appear;
(ii) Click the Login link above the comments box
(iii) Start typing a comment, click Post As button to login (Disqus option)

Hope this helps!

Garrett

It has been great since day 1 but I feel it’s still steadily improving. And not just because I started writing here pretty recently.

Not sure why so many people seem to think this is so much better.
I honestly prefer the old format, but I’m sure this one will grow on me :)

One thing I’d like to see changed is to have the screen automatically go to the first of the recent posts when you click on the “new posts” button.

I am thinking Healy is a homer too. Constantly all about the habs. Nothing good to say about Boston even when they deserve it. I think we should start a petition with CBC to get Healy off the air with them. Nobody cares about TSN. We know they are all like that and led by “the monster” Pierre McGuire. Pathetic.

    GO LEAFS GO!

thats what I want to see change too.. Click “show” for new posts, always scrolls to bottom and u have to scroll up to see.. Also the reply to posts doesnt automatically get placed in its place until you refresh the page.. little tweaks here and there, thats all. So far so good!

Agree completely. That and a blue background, preferably with alternating shades of blue- like the old one. Other than that- Great work MLHS!

I much prefer the previous platform. The one isn’t colorful enough (faaar too much white), avatars are too small, doesn’t give a person’s post count, and there’s no time stamp to know when posts were actually posted (saying number of hours ago isn’t quite the same). Perhaps I’m too much of a pothead (not a big fan of change). I LOVED the old system of simply clicking on the time stamp to refresh the page from that point forward to show all new postings. Seems to me…if it wasn’t broken…don’t fix it.
    .
Still think this is the best Leaf site on the net though. Bar none!!

Thanks for the feedback… relative to post count, if you link to your old account and click on your photo you can get a history of your activity and your post count.

Great job Alec. Its going to take a few days to get adjusted to this new comment section but its definitely easier to follow specific conversations now.

Anybody else notice Ian White’s play in SJ/LA series. I haven’t been able to watch him since he got traded to Calgary but I hope Burke signs him this off-season. He’s worth at least $2-3 mil. Since Kaberle is gone, White could get some time on the PP. He barely got the chance to play on the PP when he was here. Wilson gave him some time on the second PP unit but unlike Kaberle he shoots the puck. I remember when he was benched the first 10 games of the 2008-2009 season he came back in the lineup to prove he deserved playing time. He has a nice shot and we could use him as forward if somebody goes down. He’s a versatile player.

I would hope we do not sign White. He is a good small player but Burke has stated he wants to find a few players with more bite to their game as well a a couple of Skill guys at centre and to run the PP. White has proven to be average on other teams and was overrated in TO just as we have done with many players, like Poni,Stajan, Andro, Coli. etc. Very few of those players have starred anywhere else. White played as a Number 4 in Calgary, in the 5 hole in Carolina and the 5 hole in San Jose. He is presently being overpaid for his contribution.

Hi Alec. Yes, I noticed that. However, I liked when everyone could see everyone else’s post count without having to click various buttons. By the way, when I post…I see it posting under my user name. How do I get it to post under my nick name instead??
