Morning Mashup: Wings Force Game 7

For a team that was down and out only one week ago, the Detroit Red Wings have mounted quite the comeback to force a Game 7. With three teams already locked into the conference championships, the final spot will be up for grabs when San Jose hosts Detroit in a highly anticipated Game 7 on Thursday.

Both teams were scoreless through 40 minutes before Logan Couture opened things up on his fifth goal of the post season. Less than seven minutes later, Henrik Zetterberg evened the game and jumpstarted the Wings’ third period comeback. Valteri Filppula would then add to the lead to his team a 2-1 advantage with still over half the period to play. Despite their hard fought effort and string of scoring chances, the Sharks could not solve Jimmy Howard between the pipes.

Speedy center Darren Helm sealed the deal with an empty netter to lift Detroit to victory in front of the hometown crowd. Rest assured there aren’t too many people who would have predicted such a comeback. It’s not the first time we have witnessed epic playoff performances from the ‘winged wheel’ but overcoming a 0-3 series deficit is something even the 11 time Cup champs have yet to add to their list of franchise accomplishments.

Last Night in Leafs Prospects:

The Owen Sound Attack lost a spirited, fight-filled 7-3 contest to the Mississauga Majors, who are only one win away from advancing to the Memorial Cup. Despite going pointless in four straight, Jesse Blacker has 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) in 20 playoff games.

Your Say:

Have the Sharks lost their confidence after two straight losses to Detroit? Will the Red Wings win on Thursday?

Most likely. My point is if he does come to camp expect he will be ready to compete for that spot with everything he has.

Ok Doc. If he does make it and he goes down we still have the back ups in the minors don’t we.

I think resigning Giguere is a huge mistake. One Gus would have to go on waivers and two If we do sign a vertern I would like it to be a guy who will be able to go in for 15-20 games at a time if Reimer gets hurt or doesn’t play the way we all expect him too. Better options in my opinion would be Garon, Roloson, Harding.

Reims being stood down, hey Nonis is there, and I am sure Nonis will be able to explain this to Reims in a positive way. Valuable and positive experience for Reims. Might not hurt to be able to watch this next game.
I was saddened with the buzz that the Blues are looking to sign the 2 young studs. I was hoping the Leafs could do something, but other than draft picks I am not seeing Burkie having the assets to entice a trade. On the other hand I would like more experience/leadership from a #1C so maybe that was a blind alley. I still struggle with the options Burkie is facing for #1C. He has the economic muscle to take onerous contracts, not all players view Toronto favourably, not all UFAs are in the Burkie mold, GMs seeking outlandish values. I get amped and then flat. Just have to have faith in BB.
I wanted the Sharks to be successful, but the Coldly and crowd have faded. I really like how the Wings have pulled it together. Kronwall vs Kessler could be awesome. Too successful to be popular, naw, aggressive never say die attitude, gotta love it. Them Reds will smack down anyone from the East.

what 2 young studs are you talking about?

Gus and Reimer will battle it out along with Scrivens ,Rhynnas and Giggy if he’s invited to camp. You make it sound like its between Reimer and Gus only. Who knows maybe your favorite goalie Mark In Da Park will surprise the shit out of everyone. As far as I’m concerned there are no locks or guarantees and there shouldn’t be. They all had better come to camp ready to compete.

Me too, but I was hoping BB would have had Berglund on the radar. Young, but a real potential stud. Maybe Colborne is viewed as the heir apparent and we need more of a stop-gap center.

They might be far from signed yet. Berglund was reportedly looking for a Backes type contract around 4.5 mil per. I suspect the Blues would balk at that and may take it to arbitration. They haven’t started negotiation’s with Oshie yet but apparently intend to if Strickland’s report is reliable.

cant see them letting either of those guys walk. what GM in his right mind would?
    .
peeking at the stats (I know its pathetic just going by stats) for the WHC and a couple of names (numbers) look half decent. Kaspars Saulietis with 4pts in 6GP for Latvia. Lets face it, if you put me on team Canada I might be able to score that many points by fluke just because I can skate but on team Latvia you actually have to be doing something right……. I mean am I right or am I right?? Also have to bring up Scalzo. If it was talked about on here before then I missed it but anybody think Nonis put him on the team to get a closer look?

I would rather have Richards because he fills the bill perfectly. Berglund is a great talent and would love to have him but I doubt the Blues will let him go. They will play hardball with him but in the end they will sign him I suspect.

thought it was very odd that he said in his year end statement they would be willing to go to arbitration with him. if you ask me they are trying to sign him to a cheap one year deal and will take their time doing it.

I think if I was Nonis and Burke i would definitely give Scalzo a look see. Don’t know much about him. Doesn’t he play in Germany ? Does any team have rights or is he a FA?
