While the Stanley Cup Playoffs are still running for another two weeks, the major junior season wraps up tonight with a highly anticipated matchup between the Saint John Sea Dogs and Missisisauga St. Michaels Majors. The QMJHL champion Sea Dogs entered the tournament as the favorites, with four players ranked in the top 20 for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft, including the tremendously talented Jonathan Huberdeau. However, the Majors will put up a good test and attempt to outmatch their opponent up with depth and physicality.

The atmosphere at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga will be off the charts as junior hockey fans everywhere gather for the top event of the year. Regardless of which team wins, the Memorial Cup has been thoroughly exciting, with several promising prospects eager to leave a lasting reputation with scouts. Not only is the NHL at an all time high for popularity, but the quality of the play in the CHL may have never been better.

NO WAY. You really want to hear more about the Kessel deal from Boston fans? If they win the cup they automatically win that trade. If not, we win because it will be 2 straight years of losing because they couldnt score more

wait a minute – just so I am clear here – but, there is actually doubt about who won that Kessel trade??? seriously????

A simple fact for you – There is a salary cap in the NHL – teams cannot just sign an infinite number of players. The Bruins had to pick which winger they wanted, and they chose a player like Lucic scoring 20-30 over a player like Kessel scoring 30 – and what rational person could blame them. I guess in an imaginary world, you could keep as many 30 goal scorers as you wanted and the Bruins could keep guys like Lucic and Kessel – but, reality bites I guess..

End of the day, as the Leafs scramble to land a top flight center, Boston has a homegrown star in waiting in Seguin – and lets not forget another top end pick coming this draft..

Only thing that lets me sleep at night with respect to the Bruins – is how badly Burke fleeced them in that Kaberle trade…

    @ Andrew R:
I don’t know why you guys beat it to death. They get three top prospects for kessel. In the long haul they will win the trade. At the same time I think kessel has the skill to do what the sedins have done. Be good for 4 or 5 years and then break out as a top 10 scorer in the league. Some trades you win some you don’t. Burke has won his fair share since he’s been here.

Andrew, please don’t start. One game does not make a career. Lets not pretend Seguin is a “home grown star” lol. He’s had one good game in his young career to date. He is nothing even resembling a star. Jared Knight will likely never make the NHL. He is the equivalent of Kenny Ryan – whom we have many of in our system. Now Burke is likely to trade up and draft 2 or 3 spots after the Bruins this year. So yes, the trade is still very much debatable. Until Seguin has actually achieved something, Kessel is the superior player, and that’s really the only thing you can judge the trade on. All the other assets swapped are easily replaceable.

I can’t believe the Kessel trade is still causing arguments 2 seasons later…lol

C’mon guys, good or bad, we can’t stay hung up on this one trade; instead of talking about if Kessel was worth it, let’s focus on what we can do to build around him so he IS…

Who the hell cares? A prospect is a prospect is a prospect.. Patrik stefan anyone? Daigle anyone? Come on.. Just cuz they’re more likely to succeed doesn’t mean shit.. Plus that’s to be expected they gave us kessel so they get the picks with higher value.. We gave them an aging (still effective) rental player

    @ LukeSchenn:
Seeing as a prospect is a prospect is a prospect, I’m guessing you’ve have no problem with Burke trading Jake Gardiner to the Penguins for Nicholas D’Agostino.
Although you are right in that Seguin might never score the 30 goals that Kessel that seems to be the minimum Kessel will put up.
    .
    @ LukeSchenn:
After it’s all said and done and the Bruins don’t resign Kaberle, look at it this way.
    Kessel and Seguin are comparable.
Colborne was drafted 16th overall, so quite close to the 9th overal pick the Bruins have in this years so-called “weak draft.”
The 29/30th overall pick we get this year is comparable to the 32nd overall pick the Bruins used to select Jared Knight.
Therefore, with those comparables eliminated, the Leafs will come out ontop with an additional 2nd round pick in next years draft, although it will more than likely be a late one.

If I could trade Kessel, Colborne, this years 29th overall pick and next years 2nd rounder for Kaberle, Seguin, this years 9th overall and Jared Knight this instant, I would NOT do it.

Hell, if I could trade Kessel for this years 9th overall and Seguin, I wouldn’t do it.

I am all for the Kessel trade. We got a proven young commodity end of story. My expectation in 5 years is that Kessel will be of equal or greater value to Seguin and this years 9th.
