Thursday Morning Mashup: Bruins let one slip

Alex Burrows bit someone, Henrik Sedin flopped around, and Raffi Torres eventually scored the lone goal, and what would obviously be the game winner for the Vancouver Canucks last night. It wasn’t an overtime goal, but it may as well have been.

The Bruins actually played a great road game until the third period, their five on five play was excellent. And in the area of special teams, their penalty kill totally made up for the fact that their powerplay is laughable.

The Canucks really didn’t get a lot going on the powerplay, and Tim Thomas was great in the early and late stages of the game. But one slip up in the final seconds of the third proved costly, as Jannik Hansen threaded a pass to Torres for an easy tap in and a 1-0 series lead for Vancouver.

    @ djamon:
    “NHL Owners take zero risk.”?
In Canada, maybe not so much,(except for Quebec and Winnipeg not too long ago), but how can you say that about some shmuck who thinks a franchise in Phoenix, Atlanta or Florida, for example, seems like a pretty good business proposition? The owners take ALL the financial risk, and the players take big money and accept the physical ones.

    @ djamon:
ARE YOU SERIOUS????? Tell that to the Pheonix owner who lost 100million…or the Atlanta owners who lost 27million a year for the last four years….your thoughts (or lack of) are ridiculous…you just heard that the city of Glendale paid 25million for the operating loss of the team last year and you come out with they take no risk??? THAT IS THE STUPIDEST STATEMENT THAT I’VE HEARD ON ANY BOARD EVER!!!!!!!

You really should get caught up with the discussion before you make proclamations. Safe to say you have no idea what I’m arguing for.

    @ captain morgan:
I know you believe it when an owner says he’s lost 100M…but I don’t. Also, do you have any idea what those owners paid for their franchise to begin with? Do you know if it was even their own money they paid for them with?
    .
You guys are very gullible if you believe an owner would seriously put up their own money if they didn’t have to.

    @ lonsmos2:
Ok…I’m willing to admit that “zero risk” is a little too absolute. I’ll temper it a little and say virtually zero risk.
    .
It’s funny you bring up the TB situation. I live in Victoria where one of the formers owners of the Lightning has lived for many years…Len Barrie. This is a guy who may have made 1M in his entire NHL career and yet he was somehow able to leverage himself into an NHL Owner. Make no mistake….HE HAD NO MONEY! It’s only now that as a result of the failings of his other business dealings that we can see this. I can guarantee you…he didn’t lose a fucking penny as an owner of the TB Lightning.

    @ djamon:
WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU ON????????? Jerry Moyes went to bankruptcy court….everything was made public…he lost 150 million dollars….simple enough for you to understand….or should someone read it to you?????? That last part is a question in case you don’t know what the sign is for!!!!
BE SERIOUS NOW!!!! Many owners have lost millions in hockey and many have made millions as well….that is why the NHLPA is there…to protect the players rights as a whole, not as an individual.
You’re so niave, that I bet you don;t even know that thousands are paid to the Junior team when a player is drafted, thousands more to his midget team and thousands more to his little league team….who by? THE TEAM THAT DRAFTED HIM!!!!!! So now, the Flames have paid out that money and the little shit has gone elsewhere…yeah, that’s fair!!!

What you’re suggesting would cripple a players reputation before they enter the NHL. It’s fine for guys like Tavares and Lindros to step up and say something like that, when they can be confident they have a long NHL career ahead of them. Even then, I mean, the reputation Lindros got after that scenario tainted his career. If a player serves 3 years with a franchise, that should be their commitment to the draft process.

Too bad I always thought Muller would look good behind the Leaf bench.

    @ djamon:
My last point of the topic…there is a system in place, agreed on by the players (all of them), the teams (all of them), the league and the amateur leagues….there are contracts that extablished between all parties and a system that is in that agreement….one player does not have the right to bypass the system and that is what Erixon has done…he has hurt Calgary and his own reputation in the process and yes, he is a selfish little prick who didn’t want to wait his turn!!
As for players making money and big money, I’m all for it….they deserve it, they work their asses off to get to the show, but part of that job is being told where they will be working and living part of the year…it just goes hand in hand and if someone doesn’t like it, then don’t take the job…PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!!
BTW, you can call me anything you like…I was an asshole yesterday and will be one tomorrow, so by sound reasoning, I’M AN ASSHOLE TODAY TOO!!! I live with that!!
