Weekend Mashup: Canucks One Win Away

In a series where the Boston Bruins have outscored Vancouver 10-6, with 8 of those goals coming in Game 4, it is bordering on unfamiliar territory for both teams to be tied at no goals midway through the third period. As is often the case in these tight games, one bounce (or in this case two in the same play) proved to be the difference. After Kevin Bieksa’s bank pass of the boards took the perfect bounce out front to Maxim Lapierre, the former Hab bounced in the biggest goal of his career off of a sprawling Tim Thomas. After having a clear advantage in Games 3 & 4 while rallying behind the loss Nathan Horton, the Bruins are now in a difficult position to climb back into the series. They must hold serve at home and hope to break the home ice advantage in game 7 to complete the comeback.

The Stanley Cup will be in the building on Monday night in Boston, with the Canucks looking to become the first Canadian team to take home the trophy since the Montreal Canadiens in 1993. Almost looking down and out despite the 2-2 series score, the Canucks with a massive game 5 win are back on top, in control, and on the brink of winning it all. One win for Vancouver and it’s over.

Guys – I just don’t understand the deal for either team. Dubinsky seems to be their #1 center right now so unless they are 100% sure they’re getting Richards, why would they do it? As for the Leafs, he is not the #1C we need and aside from a Richards, Stastny or Carter, we are pretty deep at center – Grabo, Bozak, Brent, Boyce, Kadri, Colborne. I guess we’d have to know the player and prospect going to the Rangers but if it’s Bozak( plus #1 plus prospect), I just don’t see why we give up so much for a second or third line center. Dubinsky > Bozak but not that much.

Kulemin is a keeper. Of his 30 goals, 25 were even strength goals, only 5 were ppg. ( 12 of Kessels 32 were ppg, 10 of Grabbos 29 were ppg). No way I do Kulemin for Dubinsky. No way BB does either.

This talk of grabbing Dubinsky reminds me of last year when we grabbed Versteeg. We talked Versteeg up the same way some are talking up Dubinsky.
    .
He’s a decent player but not a first line centre, which is what we all decided (and Burke) that we needed. Although if it’s for Bozak and one of the low 1sts then why not? There both RFA’s so I don’t how much value either of them have.
    .
I don’t believe the rumour…if it even qualifies as one.

You have to give to get, because of our need for a center I think Burke would indeed trade Kulemin for Dubinsky straight up.

It’s an upgrade at center,we need a center badly,Kulemin can be replaced, there are more wingers out there then there are available centers, don’t get me wrong I like Kulemin but if we go into next season with the centers we have now we won’t make the playoffs.

Dubinsky scores by pure will power. He does not have a whole lot of skill in his game. Lupul is a much more natural top six player. People forget that he was a consistent 25 goal man before his crippling injuries.
    -
Dubinsky is a player who could easily drop back down to the 35-45 point range. I love Dubinsky, and I would love to have him on the Leafs, but Kulemin is a far better player, even if the stat-line didn’t show it this year. Jordan, for whatever reason you just continue to have a hate on for Kulemin – but if it were up to you he would have been traded along with Kaberle (Colborne, 1st, 2nd) and a 1st in 2012 for Bobby Ryan.
    -
You were wrong about him then, and your’e wrong about him now.

    @ Jordan:
Well, if we do get Richards and want some jam on the top line, Dubinsky on the left side would make sense. Problem then becomes – what do we do with Lupul? He needs to be in the top 6 to be effective….he’s not a bottom 6 player. His stats prorated over the full year would be the same as what Dubinsky did in his best year last year.

Burke is not trading Kulemin for Dubinsky. Please end this bad joke right now. Burke has said that when a player comes to him, and asks him what he can do to get more ice time, or a shot at the bigs, he says to them “You watch Kulemin, and do everything he does on and off the ice, and you’ll earn your ice”. I don’t think he’s trading him for a guy with less offensive skill and a smaller frame just because he’s a center. They could just as easily teach Kulemin to play center, like Chicago did with Patrick Sharp.

Stop putting words in my mouth to make yourself look smarter then you are. Your just a super leafs homer, who hates EVERYONE who isnt a leaf. It hilarious, because you just backed up Lupul, but last year if you go back and quote yourself you called him “shit, no good, worst contract in the league, overrated”. Just stop. When the FUCK did I “hate” Kulemin
Please take the time find out. I really dare you to. Go….you wont find it you know why? Because your the king at manipulating conversations and putting words into peoples mouth

Jordan, I need only go back to threads from a year ago to show you constantly using Kulemin’s 35 points as a reason to trade him in a package including Kaberle and 1st round picks for any star we could muster. That’s not putting words in your mouth. You said those things, and if you don’t believe me, go back and look yourself.
    -
Of course we all say dumb things on here from time to time, I’m not using this to try and make you look stupid (or myself smart). I just think you’ve been wrong about this particular player so much, that your opinion on him doesn’t count for much in my books. And I typically value your opinion, so again, don’t read that as a massive shot. I’m just saying, you’re off on Kulemin, and always have been. This guy has such a unique package of skills that players like Dubinsky just simply don’t. You can use stats to justify your opinion if you want, but last year Kulemin was comparable to Peter Regin and Gilbert Brule. You and several other posters were quick to make that comparison. But there is so much more to evaluating a player.
    -
As for Lupul, I have never denied that Lupul is skilled. I said those things about his contract when his back was broken and his career was in jeopardy, and people wanted to trade Kaberle and picks for him. Context is pretty key there. Lupul was one of my favorite players in Anaheim, but he really lost his way in Edmonton, and I didn’t follow him in Philadelphia all that much. My comments about him were strictly in relation to his injuries though. The guy was 165 pounds.
    -
If you really think i hate everyone that’s not a Leaf, that’s cool. I’m not going to try and convince you otherwise. I think that’s a grossly unfair comment. I would gladly give up Bozak, Caputi and a 1st for Dubinsky, even though Bozak has a potentially higher ceiling on his own. I like Dubinsky that much. But he is not comparable to Kulemin, who has a much more complete skillset.

Well, I’m pretty sure you did. Even if you didn’t, Kulemin, Colborne, 1st, 2nd is a ridiculous package to get 4 more goals a season over Kulemin’s production (and much worse defensive play). Anyways, i don’t want to fight about it, I’m off for the night. Later.

Going back last year, he had 36 points, and people wanted to pay him 4 mil per season. Thats a joke. Thankfully Burke was on the same page I was and gave him 2.35 when I guessed 2.25. But I never said one bad thing about him now. So piss off putting words in my mouth

Ha! How’s your blood pressure now?

TO change the subject, who do we think/want Burke to take in the draft? It’s under 2 weeks away. If Burke doesn’t trade any picks away, the 2 guys I really want are Zack Phillips, who is a great 2 way center, and Rocco Grimaldi. I know a lot of people say we need size, but Grimaldi is lights out. He’s fast, great hands, hits, and has a boatload of heart. He had a great quote at the Combine. It was along the lines that if he goes into the corner with a bigger guy, and the other guy comes out with the puck, he says it’s not because the other guy was bigger or stronger, it’s because there was something he did wrong against him. He said he’ll study how to improve that aspect of his game. I love guys like that

Burke will need to be offered a bigger fish than Dubinsky one for one before he trades Kulemin
