Morning Mashup: Keep It Going

Here we are. After months of great hockey we find ourselves at a dismal place. Yes, unfortunately, it could all be over today. The unfortunate part isn’t in that the Canucks could be crowned champions, even if they haven’t quite displayed the character traits most of us would like to see in a Stanley Cup winner.

No, ladies and gentlemen, the sadness comes from the realization that hockey will be gone for quite some time. Starting tonight or Wednesday, it really doesn’t matter. Seeing how this is probably my last mashup before the Finals are over, please allow a little ode to hockey.

People that know I write about hockey often ask me if ever get tired of it. My friends, who know me really well (and hence know more about hockey than your average Croat) ask me if I ever hit the saturation point from the grueling regular season and the playoffs. The answer is yes, but only for a moment. Watching games at night, sleeping less, that’s what really makes me want to recharge my batteries, not hockey itself.

That said, every time I think about the game, or watch a Stanley Cup Finals game during this time of the season, I realize how much I’m going to miss it. I can’t wait to see our Leafs playing again. Of course, there is still the draft and July 1st to look forward to, but that, while extremely exciting and vital for the future Leafs success, still doesn’t compare with seeing the puck on the ice.

Goodbye hockey, stay well and… come back soon. Oh, and give us one more game will you?

Yes it sounds strange. One the most talented players and then no contact!!!
IMO it is no brainer to sign Parise no matter how much troubles there are at the front office

Just to go against the grain…GO CANUCKS GO tonight! Now that that’s out of my system….
    -
I for one am not wishing my summer away…there may not be hockey but its canoeing and fishing season…another great way to spend the weekends. I’m also heading back to Newfoundland for a week in July so i’m pumped.
    -
All I’m waiting to hear now is that we settle with Schenn and then maybe Mack and Bozie.. get the contracts out of the way for draft day.

Nice write up Mislav. Nothing better than having a cup of coffee and reading MLHS before work. I am certainly hoping for a game 7, although I am looking forward to Draft day and July 1st.

    @ Ensign:
I hear ya… As much as I want the hockey season back, there is no way in hell I am going to wish my summer away. The golf and fishing seasons are back, and there is plenty of hockey talk ahead of us. Free agency and draft day are some of the most exciting times of the year IMO. So i am looking forward to the new few weeks.

Anwyays, off to work. Here’s hoping for a game 7! and to the Devils not signing Parise :D ! Have a good one, and again, great writeup!

Exactly…hockey season is awesome but it means cold cold temps here in Winnipeg…I’m good for a thawing for awhile.

I’m not a fan of the NBA but I am so glad to see the Mavericks win last night. One, Mark Cuban is a great owner who has poured a ton of money and effort into his team all while bucking the establishment led by Gary Bettman’s idol David Stern. Two, I couldn’t be happier to see those three stooges lose after that disgraceful show they put on after signing with Miami and promising “not one, not two, not three… blah blah blah championships” Well they got it right in one way, “not one”. Here’s hoping the Bruins extend this series tonight and Thomas stuffs it to Lulongo after his misplaced comments after game 5.

Thanks to MLHS for giving us a forum to discuss hockey….no better site in hockey.

Come on….one dream came true last night with the Heat losing at home, now if the Bruins can just win TWO freakin games. TWO more wins and I will be one happy camper !!

Haha how can you go for the Bruins? If they win Leafs Nation will NEVER hear the end of it. At least if the Canucks win we can tune them out.

So true. Burke can just sign Alex Giroux after the Nucks’ win and the Leafs will be atop the news in the hockey world once more.

    @ Ensign:

True but I put money on the Bruins to win the Cup so it matters to me ! (back in january I think)
Plus I am not sure if I could loathe a city more than Vancouver. At the very least the Montreal fans are totally committed to the team. I have never seen more of a bandwagon run than the one created by the canucks this year.

Yes, whereas maybe, just maybe, if the Canucks could shut them out at home for two shutouts in a row, we might just hear whispers of “sure would be nice to have Kessel about now…”

For some reason they don’t get near the flack for that trade that BB does. It doesn’t exist to the media. So annoying.

Nevermind….UFA that Snow doesnt sound like he wants back. Could be a negotiating ploy.

I will take him at a modest increase on 600k. Bump him up to 900k and sign the guy. He will be a fan favorite on the 4th line.

Not bad but Konopka had the 5th best (i believe) faceoff % in the NHL. Tough to move a guy like that to the wing….
