Aside from the Stanley Cup parade yesterday in Boston, there is really not much to discuss in the hockey world. With the draft in five days and the free agent market opening shortly thereafter, it’s not long before there will be plenty to talk about. Think of right now as the calm before the storm. It will be a busy off season for Brian Burke as he looks to acquire a front line centre and beef up his forward corps. This is the year the Leafs get serious about the playoffs and Burke has work to do before this roster is ready. It all begins Friday when the Leafs stand up to the podium to make their entry draft selections. Let the fun begin!

Remember the day Muckler signed Hossa to a three-year, US$18-million contract, then blindsided him by trading him to Atlanta the next day? A hockey insider said this week that the mistreatment of Hossa so infuriated Chara, his friend and Slovak countryman, there was no way he was going to re-sign with Ottawa, no matter the offer. The Senators got nothing for Chara, and all that remains of the Heatley trade is Michalek.

HA HA HA thanks for reminding me about all that.

    @ Cameron:
    .
I would take the leading scorer in this year’s Stanley Cup playoff’s over Grabo at this point. You might prefer Grabo’s style because he’s a Leaf, but it’s hard to argue with Krejci right now.
    .
But I’m in full agreeance with Kulemin>>>>>>>>Lucic.

That’s exactly what I mean though. It’s so easy to pick Krejci right now. His TEAM just went all the way to the Cup. If Grabovski were in the same situation, I feel his numbers would be equally good or better. I mean, you wouldn’t take Krejci over Toews just because Toews wasn’t the leading scorer in the playoffs (in fact, he was rather useless this year). Krejci’s a good player in a good situation. Grabovski’s a good player in a bad situation.

Markov is a no for me, 2 knee injuries and an achillies tendon in the last few years, and you have to know that a goon on the habs would take him out behind the net in the first meeting of the season. I think White might be an option that is A: More affordable , B: He is younger and C: Can play forward in a pinch so we have that flex option.

He literally just typed out the stats from the last 4 years and proved that Richards was more productive. Carter only has a better +/-, but that is largely a product of playing on a championship caliber team.

Right now the mock draft has us getting Puempel, Biggs and Percey if Burke pulled that off that would be amazing

I think I was very clearly talking about the playoffs. He was 8th on the team in scoring in the playoffs. They kept wondering when Toews would show up. Remember?

    @ Cameron:
non of the hawks really showed up tho they played a team game and where one bad clearance away from knocking of the canucks (in which kesler did a good job at keeping Toews in check) never the less he played good considering it was only 7 games and the whole team wasn’t up for it until there back where against the wall

    @ Cameron:
Yeah, I would personally take Kulemin right now as well, but Lucic had a great bounceback year and looks more effective than ever. I guess his biggest test will be trying to produce without high caliber linemates. Kulemin will always be strong defensively if his offense isn’t there, but can Lucic still be effective? I guess that remains to be seen.
    .
I’d still take Krejci over Grabovski though, every time. Younger, proven playoff performer, good in his own end, good offensive instincts. He’s like a better version than Grabovski. We can guess that Grabo would be just as good or better in the same situation, but we don’t know that, so I’ll stick with the sure thing.

Regardless, you kind of missed the point. Toews is a better player than Krejci, but Krejci had a better playoff – you wouldn’t take Krejci over Toews on your team though – you’d be insane. I am confident Grabovski will make us proud when his opportunity comes. The guy has too much heart not to take that ball and run with it.

Grabo’s awesome, but at this point, Krejci has proven more, and has reached levels Grabo hasn’t. Grabo’s best season was this season, and he scored 58 points, while Krejci has had 73 and 62 point years. His 73 point season came in 08/09, when he only averaged 15:05 of even-strength+powerplay ice-time, and spent the majority of his even-strength time alongside Ryder and Wheeler.
    .
That being said, I’m not sure I’d trade Grabo for Krejci, because Grabo is cheaper, and who knows if Krejci would have the same chemistry with Mac and Kulemin, whom could both see their play dip after losing Grabo.

Agree with all of that. I just don’t think it’s fair to compare them fully right now, as Krejci is in a very nice situation in Boston with prime goaltending (the best ever), Norris-caliber #1 defence-men, and great depth all over the roster. The one thing I will concede though is that Krejci has age on his side. He’s achieved higher heights at a younger age, and that is to be commended. I think Grabovski will be on the same plane as Krejci, if not better, once the team around him is better as well.
